--- - |- LiveNation handles the most rock shows in the US, and many of their newest venues answer to a higher authority: churches and synagogues have become popular concert spots. One good example is Washington DC's Sixth and I Historic Synagogue, where UK chart-topper Adele recently perfomed, and rockers Grizzly Bear will appear in August. The acoustics, intimate setting, [...] ~~- ...
Laura Snapes met bassist and multi-instrumentalist Chris Taylor to talk orchestral accompaniment, essential classical composers and finding yourself caught off guard by your own music.
A bus crash forced Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear to pull their scheduled show in Milan, Italy this week. Happily, no injuries were received unless you count automobiles as sentient creatures. The incident happened overnight as the band were driving from their show in Munich, Germany the night before.
You know how sometimes you listen to a highly touted band or singer, but something about the artist(s) just doesn’t click. Maybe it was after a recommendation by someone you trust - if you know what I mean, fellow MOGgers. Then, later in the game, you hear an irresistible song that you think that you’ve never heard before, and you’re so excited and delighted, and you must find out who it is.
Grizzly Bear recently performed some songs for Pitchfork TV’s “Cemetery Gates” in a chapel in the middle of a graveyard in Brooklyn. While that settles in, check out the above video of “Fix It,” a song from the band’s 2004 debut, Horn of Plenty. The best band of the year also cranked out incredible renditions of [...]
Tonight was the second night of Grizzly Bear's return to San Francisco... It's also the end of their American Tour... (although they will be playing Pitchfork Fest and a few additional shows... lucky Brooklyn gets a FREE show in August!)... I did the poster for the shows... (which I've posted here)... It might be tough to tell... but the charms on the necklace represent the three proper albums....
And the results are glorious. In my humble opinion anyway. The Grizzly Bear tune 'Knife' was one of my favorite songs from 2006...and Greg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, has totally reinvented it. I hope you guys like this as much as I did...layers on top of layers, a wonderful collage of sounds.
Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. Photo by Rezflicks. At JellyNYC’s last free concert of their NYC Pool Party series on the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn last Sunday, it seems like the forecasted bad weather was just about the only no-show. Otherwise, the full capacity crowd had to wait in an hour-long line that wound around the surrounding [...]
So, here we are, edging towards the end of 2009. Now seems a perfect time to take stock, sit back and mull over the best and worst music of the year so far....more here.

Renowned producer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Chris Taylor adds to his already varied and impressive resume with the inception of Terrible Records. For now, the mom and pop institution will focus on a series of exclusively 7 inch releases, some of which are likely to be available for purchase/listening during the Labels inaugural CMJ music showcase. The incipient release [...]
This first week of June is killer for shows in the area. Down in DC tonight is the amazing Grizzly Bear at the 9:30 Club. Here We Go Magic is also on the bill making this show off the hook. If you can’t get into that one (which is a good chance) then don’t despair [...]
Have I told you lately how lovely this album has been?I hate to admit it, but even with my incredible (over-)consumption of music, it's been a long time since I've gotten the tingles listening to an album. Veckatimest is simply a joy.
Ohhh "Sasquatch!":http://www.sasquatchfestival.com/. What an incredible festival. We saw 13 bands on 3 different stages in almost 13 hours. It's taken me awhile to get my thoughts together about the trip, and my body ached for several days afterward from all the driving and walking, but it was so worth it. I wish I could live there :) Me and my best friend, Joni, hit the road early for the two ...
