http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/04/02itunes.htmlHere's my take on the EMI/Apple "No more DRM" campaign, reported previously:The future for EMI artists is a 256K/sec. music file at the Apple iTunes music store. Since I encode MP3s at 192K/sec., I'll be looking over the EMI signed artist list for someone "interesting." For the moment, here's an artist that will play on Ye Olde Pismo at 192K/...

Courage & Patience & Grit: Great Big Sea In Concert [11/21]

My friend the Killbot is absolutely right ... Courage and Patience and Grit is the best Great Big Sea live album yet. Road Rage was a disappointment and the Great Big DVD & CD was OK, but more interesting for the promo videos than for the concert. This, though, is what they've been striving for ... "Canadians," observes Craig Ferguson, "are the nicest people on Earth...until you put a Hockey stick in their hands, then they turn into crazed killers on ice!" Looking over the links I came across this very interesting group: The Salvation Army Motorcycle Club. There's a Canadian branch of this started-in-Norway club, which goes with this track.

When you leave the old country for somewhere new, it's inevitable that something/one is left behind. There are numerous tales of emigrants who planned to work for a stake and go back home. Most found that the "Gold Mountain" was made of copper coins, and stayed longer than they had originally planned.

Great Big Sea's "Fortune's Favour" CD release liner notes are short on details and long on acknowledgments. (Do I notice a trend here?) Fortunately, such details are available at the band's website, which influenced which MP3s I uploaded. This Friday-night-at-the-dance track was left off "Something Beautiful," but here is the tale of a teen in a borrowed pickup truck in search of a dance partner.

I bought "Fortune's Favour" recently, listened to it, then went to Amazon to see what other buyers had to say about this GBS studio release CD. Early posters were disappointed or angry at their second Pop outing. I did find "Something Beautiful" different, but the title fit. Here's the second tune on the CD, where "Hamlet" does his thing...
