Thank you Dr. Hofmann, for a real good time.
NY Times "Albert Hofmann, the mystical Swiss chemist who gave the world LSD , the most powerful psychotropic substance known, died Tuesday of a heart attack at his hilltop home near Basel, Switzerland. He was 102.
Mr. Hofmann synthesized LSD in 1938 but did not discover its psychopharmacological effects until five years later, when he accidentally ingested the substance." The vid is Dark Star - 8-27-72 part 1

"The goal of the game is to use Google shares to buy as many properties as you can without landing in the deadpool and losing your stock. As with any great board game, there’s a very real metaphor to what’s going on…. What happens when the Google monster gobbles up all that is left in the web world, is present on your cell phone, desktop, and even controls your health information?" cont...

"The Grateful Dead Movie, released in 1977 and directed by Jerry Garcia, is a film that captures performances from the Grateful Dead's October 1974 five-night stand at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. This end-of-tour run marked the beginning of an extended hiatus for the band, with no shows planned for 1975. The movie also faithfully po... MORE

It is important to remember that the Grateful Dead were a Rhythm & Blues based rock n roll band, with jugband/folk/country sensibilities around the edges.
Early Dead shows would find Pigpen gettin' his Mojo workin', riffing on classic blues with an authentic vibe all his own.
And the Dead had acoustic shows long before "unplugged" made it hip.
And they had three great vocalists, dermahrk's assertions notwithstanding.
From Bear's Choice then, we have the Dead's transc... MORE

The earlier talk of the ethics of downloading music vs used cd's But how 'bout true bootlegs? Rehearsal tapes, outtakes, concert performances, etc etc?
These usually are stolen from the creators of the music and marketed illegally. How do we feel about that?
I know I feel just awful. Each and every time I purchase a bootleg album I think about this. But I have a couple of hundred of such things. I can't help it, I enjoy hearing how a song comes together. So he... MORE
