Building on Cody's "incredible post":http://mog.com/Cody_B/blog_post/129281 of sampled breakbeats, here is a famous organ sound that was sampled by a few classic early '90's hip-hoppers.Grant Green and a live band, playing in some club in NJ, laying the root down on some electric guitar jazz in a funky way.

In the '70s, guitarist Grant Green turned to an R&B and funk style in order to keep up with the times and invite as wide an audience as possible. At the time, critics cried foul at what they called "selling out" and disavowed Green from their critical radar. Off his first album, I think it sets the tone for one of the best, if not the best (sorry Wes), Jazz guitarists ever. This is also a great example of the talent Blue Note and Grant Green pulled together for all of his albums. Every musician o...

So for today's sample, I decided to go with one sample and two producers that both flipped it in different ways. The source is Grant Green's "Maybe Tomorrow," which Marco Polo spun to make "Nostalgia" with Masta Ace, while Dre flipped an entirely different part on "Still D.R.E." with Snoop. Marco Polo feat. Masta Ace - "Nostalgia" Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg - "Still D.R.E." Grant Green - "Maybe
