Something Very Special

As I lie here in my lonely bed

The kind of girl you'd like to see
To follow or to find her

To answer to or dwell upon
And think about the things she said

To prove to her my love was true

Or free and easy on the run
In a movie or a rosary
Like a good friend or a pair of shoes
And she gave to me a dream or two

She didn't leave me anything
Or any kind of good news

She liked candlelight and good wine
She departed in the early spring
But now the days have turned to years
And I would call her any time
When I must run far away

It didn't seem that she had anyone
There were times when she would never appear
She was something very special to me
She could be meek and mild or full of fun
The was nothing that I wouldn't do
I was something she could use
She would never say where she came from

She could be straight-laced or homespun
She liked country lanes and aeroplanes
And when she wanted you she made it plain
Now the eastern sky is crimson and red
She said, darling there will come a day
And cigarettes would make her strange
For days and then she'd disappear
Of day or night she didn't mind
