WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Gomez

SXSW Thursday: Gomez, Andrew Bird, Late Of The Pier, Young Galaxy

Gomez's Tom Grey said it best: "Welcome to the great endurance test on earth!" You can't help but laugh. Between the heat, lines and music blaring from every corner and street, while brands like Myspace, Levi's and Blackberry try to shove their propaganda down your throat, SXSW can get exhausting. Did I mention the free beer and whiskey? That too.My wrist has been fully molested by wristbands...

More Radio-Friendly Gomez On "A New Tide"

Gomez and I go way back. Back to about 1999, which makes it an even decade now. That was the year I came across their breakthrough and Mercury Prize winning debut Bring It On in a pile of CDs that included Wilco's Being There, Soul Coughing's El Oso and one from Limp Bizkit. There was a lot of pop on the radio then. Indie rock was just starting to grab people's attention, and Gomez caught mine....

KEITH MOON WAS A GENIUS BY CONCENSUS....OLLY PEACOCK IS AS WELL....BUT IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WAY
7 months ago

Any discussion of Rock Drummers usually gets around to Keith Moon sooner or later. His manic percussion style has been oft imitated, but rarely improved upon. He was a remarkable talent. But there are other ways for a drummer to shine....Listen to Olly Peacock on this track. His is a subtle superiority, he doesn't draw attention to himself, he always works to further the song. Though he's ...

Stars' Amy Millan Guests On New Gomez Album

Blog post image preview

The cast of Grey's Anatomy must be psyched. Gomez have completed a new album, due in the first quarter of 2009. Some more tunes for the background of another episode where McFreaky's f$#king up some operation? I kid.No title yet for the follow-up to the 'Mez's commerically successful How To Operate. Gomez have been working on their sixth studio album "in a drunken mess," according to the band's...

Gomez Ride A New Tide To The East Coast

Gomez have always been on and off for me. After the release of 2002's In Our Gun (listen to "Detroit Swing 66") the Brits held the coveted title of my most favorite band. The timing was right: I was in college. Indie was only beginning its infiltration on mainstream, and the music was different than most of the other teeny bop pop they played on the radio, i.e. Christina Aguilera. It's seven ye...

Gomez Touring US This Spring With New Album
7 months ago

So Gomez's new album, A New Tide, might teeter on the line of "meh," but that doesn't mean their live shows will faulter. Live is what Gomez does best, making each sappy, ooh & aah love song of their's sound like an all out funky rager. In celebration of the new studio cuts the Brits will be heading off on a US tour beginning May 22nd in Detroit, Michigan that culminates with their June 12th Bo...

Follow your bliss

Some people collect stamps or coins or baseball cards...I collect great quotes.Because I have found that nearly every peak and every valley that I have experienced, and all of the emotions that come with those, someone MUCH smarter than me has encapsulated my thoughts on the subject in a MUCH better way than I ever could.I was scouring the internet for a few more words to add to my collection ...

'Gomez the gig's in here"

One of the great band naming stories. The title of this post refers to a sign left for a friend (Gomez, of course) to indicate where the as yet un-named band was playing. People saw the sign and assumed that gomez was the name of the band. And the rest as they say...I am diggin their new lp and especially found this song compelling - I don't question it, I just go with it.

Revelation

Why is it that every song is my favorite tune? why, on a Friday afternoon the world seems a little brighter? Ever notice how a song you've heard a million times can, on the one million and first, can burst in your mind, heart, and soul like a sky rocket! And the weird part is.....often its not a song anyone would consider so very special...but it SPEAKS TO YOU HEART and will probably ...
