We have a sneaking suspicion that Gomez enjoy Australia. They've been in Australia seven times since their thirteen year existence. Only. Most recently here for the Falls Festival over the new year period. So, this time they're coming to promote new album 'A New Tide', released back in March this year. It's the bands sixth album and their follow up to their fantastic 'How We Operate' album. With ...
At Bonnaroo Friday, the rain held off, providing slightly less muddy conditions in which to stand, and a slightly more excruciating sunburn with which to live. But my discomfort was swiftly squelched as the day filled with memorable shows. On to the reviews: Gomez After the half-day schedule on Thursday, I began my Friday viewing with Gomez at 12:30 in the afternoon. In Our Gun is one of my fav...
After a solo album and tour for lead singer Ian Ball, UK band Gomez are back with A New Tide, the band's sixth studio album.Long time fans of the band shouldn't be surprised by what they hear on the record. The loose jangle rock of songs like "If I Ask You Nicely" will sound instantly familiar. It never ceases to amaze me how an English band can utilize a banjo as well as Gomez. Those numbers
Gomez and I go way back. Back to about 1999, which makes it an even decade now. That was the year I came across their breakthrough and Mercury Prize winning debut Bring It On in a pile of CDs that included Wilco's Being There, Soul Coughing's El Oso and one from Limp Bizkit. There was a lot of pop on the radio then. Indie rock was just starting to grab people's attention, and Gomez caught mine....
Gomez won the Mercury Award, did you know that? The year was 1999 and their debut album Bring It On was quite literally going Platinum (as did their sophomore attempt Liquid Skin). It was all very promising stuff. Unfortunately, as time passed, people forgot about Gomez and their last few albums have been released to relatively quiet fame.
Shain Shapiro revisits a benchmark in British music, a true pop record for those tired of pop. Now re-released and repackaged with a bonus disc of out-takes, b-sides and live performances to celebrate its 10 year anniversary.
Gomez's Tom Grey said it best: "Welcome to the great endurance test on earth!" You can't help but laugh. Between the heat, lines and music blaring from every corner and street, while brands like Myspace, Levi's and Blackberry try to shove their propaganda down your throat, SXSW can get exhausting. Did I mention the free beer and whiskey? That too.My wrist has been fully molested by wristbands...

Any discussion of Rock Drummers usually gets around to Keith Moon sooner or later. His manic percussion style has been oft imitated, but rarely improved upon. He was a remarkable talent. But there are other ways for a drummer to shine....Listen to Olly Peacock on this track. His is a subtle superiority, he doesn't draw attention to himself, he always works to further the song. Though he's ...
The cast of Grey's Anatomy must be psyched. Gomez have completed a new album, due in the first quarter of 2009. Some more tunes for the background of another episode where McFreaky's f$#king up some operation? I kid.No title yet for the follow-up to the 'Mez's commerically successful How To Operate. Gomez have been working on their sixth studio album "in a drunken mess," according to the band's...
Gomez have always been on and off for me. After the release of 2002's In Our Gun (listen to "Detroit Swing 66") the Brits held the coveted title of my most favorite band. The timing was right: I was in college. Indie was only beginning its infiltration on mainstream, and the music was different than most of the other teeny bop pop they played on the radio, i.e. Christina Aguilera. It's seven ye...
