Released almost simultaneously with their final Touch and Go full length, 1996's multi-magazine "best-of" list-maker House of GVSB, the Disco Six Six Six EP features one track lifted from that album as well as four otherwise unavailable songs. Presumably outtakes from the House of GVSB sessions, Disco's four new songs are, for the most part, strong enough to have stood next to the rest of House's fine tracks. Following the dark swagger of the title track, "Distracted" ably holds the mood, almost calling to mind the feel of Venus Luxure No.1, Baby, with super-fuzzy guitars and bass. Pulsing, organ-toned keyboards build into an Eli Janney voiced bridge and almost Addams Family-esque clap-along chorus. Knocking the pace down a notch, "Do It Like Diamonds" is simply sultry with McCloud's rasp alternating with Janney's falsetto and more of that steam organ sound. "Black Leather" is standard big riff GvsB fare, while album closer "Keep Yer Pants On" is just the guys messing around it the studio, perhaps a demo that never quite got finished. Worth tracking down for serious fans, as well as those who simply wish Freak*on*ica would have picked up where House left off.
