Last week we wrote HERE about Gang Gang Dance and their European tour which came to the UK at the end of February. In a horrible, fiery turn of events the band have been forced to cancel the entire tour after all of their instruments and gear were burned to a crisp in a blaze that swept through the storage lock-up warehouse they were using.

This isnt so much breaking news as it a strong reminder that seriously hyped up and comers (can they still be called that?) Gang Gang Dace are touring at the end of this month (February). The Gang Gang will play the Rough Trade East Record Store in London on February 23rd at around 8pm and will continue through till the 28th where they finish off in Brighton.

As we approach the end of the decade, most people are contemplating what the high spots of that decade were and I’d be very surprised if people didn’t mention the countless number of great bands from New York. We’ve seen the emergence of hipster favourites TV On The Radio and the effortlessly cool Yeah Yeah [...]

[April 2009] Gang Gang Dance have seen some shit. Since they began playing together in New York at the beginning of the decade, the city has undergone tremendous changes, physically as well as culturally. Then there are the more personal turbulences, ranging from the death of original member Nathan Livingston Maddox in 2002 to a freak fire that destroyed most of their equipment this past Februa...

It's with a fondness we take a bow and draw the curtain on a year in music and start wrapping up the year in albums or we really could be here until next December and miss all of next year's. We really couldn't leave without a quick look through the rest of some exceptional records that arrived in 2008. GANG GANG DANCE - SAINT DYMPHNA The kind of album that could evolve an entire film from i...

It's good to step out of my musical comfort zone every once and a while to see what else is out there. Oftentimes, it reaffirms why I like what I like. So I went into this night cold, with an open mind. Marnie Stern is a female guitarist, playing alongside another guitarist and drummer. [...]

If you have any interest in hearing what the future of music might sound like, go buy the new Gang Gang Dance record Saint Dymphna . This recording is the bands follow up to 2005's God's Money and is their most accessible recording to date. Chock-full of mind bending rock, trance, grime, and Bollywood flare -- it's difficult to ask for much more of this one of a kind, absolutely unique ...

I've been pretty anxious to hear the album version of "House Jam ," the first single from Gang Gang Dance 's upcoming Saint Dymphna LP, since hearing what xxxchange did with the song a few weeks back. I mentioned then that this is what it might sound like if Timbaland produced the Knife , and I'm happy to report that the original is just as danceable (and immediately infectious and access...

Saint Dymphna is the adventurous, genre-spanning new LP from Gang Gang Dance. "Princes," featuring East London's illest MC, Tinchy Stryder, is perhaps the most arresting, out of left field, interstellar-dancefloor-ready track on an album full of kaleidoscopic jams. Tinchy's "trying to get mainstream money," which would explain the urgency with which he attacks this insane Gang Gang beat. GGD's ...

I like just about everything Gang Gang Dance has done, though before a couple weeks ago, 2005's God's Money made me rave the most ... kind of a long time to find more pay dirt. I got excited about some (though, not all) of the EP teasers that came in its wake, but they did ultimately feel like teasers, and not a jump to something else equally transcendent. Enter their excellent new album Saint ...

--- - |- Photos by Drew KatchenWith 176 drummers spread across two coastal hotspots, Boredoms' 88BoaDrum bonanza succeeded in one-upping last year's 77BoaDrum spectacle in pretty much every way. The New York City edition kicked off at precisely 8:08 p.m. local time on August 8 (08/08/08!), with Gang Gang Dance at the helm and 88 drummers in all doing their drummy thing. Check back soon for sho...

--- - |- Friday was 8/8/8, a day I and many other slaves to the freakish rhythm had been waiting for for a year and a month - the sequel to Boredoms' 77BOADRUM, 88BOADRUM. 88 drummers performing in a spiral around a psychedelic center stage: this year, Boredoms held court at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles while Brooklyn's Gang Gang Dance did their own version on the Williamsburg waterf...
