Fujiya & Miyagi are no duo and definitely not Japanese. They are an electronic band from Brighton, United Kingdom who create music that has the feel of Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. David Best and Steve Lewis started Fujiya & Miyagi, in 2000 and describe their infectious popsongs as a weird hybrid of James Brown on valium and Wire switched to pop music. In 2003, whilst still a duo, Fujiya & Miya...

Since we have Fujiya & Miyagi on the brain this week , we figured we better let you know about this F&M remix of Mercury Rev's Senses On Fire . Senses On Fire was the first single form MR's latest album Snowflake Midnight . The band is to release their next single Butterfly's Wing on November 17th as well as a special 12" remix package featuring two remixes by Isan and Carlos Anthony M...
Tellingly, when Fujiya & Mijagi remixed Mercury Rev, they made the dramatic flourishes less fiery, more leveled. The Brighton boys like to keep it steady. That in mind, "Sore Thumb "'s F&M formula didn't come as a surprise when we first posted it. A couple months later, it's still funky, full of synths, and as Amrit mentioned, vaguely sexy and nonsensical. The video doesn't really help matters ...
So while in winter hibernation, i've been working on an article about music wine pairings....thought you kids out in Napa or my lovely Queen of hell may have some strong thoughts......So far, I've got the whites down:whites:Chardonnay- clear, crisp, a bit tart, but predictable, and rather common. Actually they are everywhere. My Morning Jacket, Regina Spektor, Band of HorsesRiesling- saccharine...
Anyone ever hear of these guys? I just stumbled onto them this week. This video for Ankle Injuries is pretty good as well.http://www.myspace.com/fujiyaandmiyagihttp://www.fujiya-miyagi.co.uk/mp3.htm
I posted this yesterday but the player was down...so here is an encore post:In theory, the idea of chanting your band name at the beginning of a song sounds really, REALLY lame….but in practice, it makes for an infectious groove. So I present to you exhibit A in my case….one positive of MOG being down, i caught up on some ‘zone out’ time with some different records…this was one of my fa
--- - |- I was thwarted in my initial attempts to listen to Fujiya & Miyagi's (F&M) Lightbulbs. Their previous album, 2006's Transparent Things, was something of a sleeper hit with me and also, initially at least, avoided my cunning aural attempts. That was an album that fused a whole host of influences into something funky and completely out of tune with what else was coming out of their home...
Formed in Brighton in 2000, Fujiya & Miyagi are purveyors of the 70's Krautrock popularized by bands such as Can and Neu!. The band's name comes from the now infamous, waxing on and off teacher from The Karate Kid movies and a brand of a record player. They've produced several LP's and remix albums including 2008's Light Bulbs and their songs have found mainstream commercial success being featu...

I've coined the phrase "COOL POP" (okay, maybe someone else said it first) to define their sound. If they are 1/8 as good as they were in March when I saw them at SXSW I will be satisfied....
You might mistakedly think that Fujiya & Miyagi were a duo when in fact their is four members of this UK electro funk band. Steve Lewis (Fujiya) on synths, beats, programming and backing vocals, David Best (Miyagi) on vocals and guitar Matt Hainsby (Ampersand, yes thats what I said) is on bass guitar and backing vocals. They have also added Lee Adams on drums since their well recieved 2006 alb...
