Friendly reminder, the Fruit Bats are playing one of our favorite Dallas venues, The Loft, tonight. But before they bring their Rubber Soul-esque harmonies and 70's-infused indie jams to the intimate setting that embodies The Loft, Eric Johnson and company will be playing a stripped down in store set over at the even more intimate Good Records. In store starts at 7 sharp, the big show starts at...
My story on Eric D. Johnson and the Fruit Bats is published this week in the Tucson Weekly:In the four years that have passed since the last Fruit Bats album, singer-songwriter-guitarist Eric D. Johnson has toured and recorded with the Shins and Vetiver, projects that encouraged him to open up to more collaboration in his own band. So when it came time to record the songs that would become The
Fruit bats are releasing a new album on August 4th called The Ruminant Band. These guys have a special spot in several of my playlists since their song “When U Love Somebody” was featured in the mix CD I played during cocktail hour at my wedding. Here’s the label’s description of the new album:Using bright melodies, [...]
Eric D. Johnson, who also occasionally plays with Vetiver and the Shins, is finally releasing the fourth record and first in four years from his Fruit Bats. The album, The Ruminant Band, is due out August 4th on Sub Pop. The Fruit Bats’ melodies are nearly unparalleled in their ability to immediately catch and glue to an ear drum. Throughout the three albums prior to this fourth release, the man was the head of creative control, writing the lyrics, music, arrangements and singing whilst the two other part-time members (and old band-mates from his previous group I Rowboat, Dan Strack and Brian Belval) took care of everything else.
Seattle-based Fruit Bats have just released their fourth album, The Ruminant Band. Now, Fruit Bats will probably get a lot of attention based solely on the fact that leader Eric Johnson also happens to be in a little northwest band you may have heard of called The Shins. While the Fruit Bats' music is based on a similar folk/pop dynamic as The Shins, the similarities really aren't enough to
photo by Cassi Saari Although I just heard of Fruit Bats , I feel like I've heard this song before. Does anyone know if this is in a commercial or on a soundtrack or something? It's so familiar. Anyhow, I loves it. This is also a nod to Bimp.FM...basically Twitter for musics. Add me! I'm "tangledcord ," of course.
but what choices do I have?Sure I don't have a lot to complain about, it pays the bills, close to home (6 minute commute by bike) and never so stressful that I take it home with me at night. But sometimes, just sometimes, the bastards I work with disappoint and frustrate me (and more so today).Done bitchin'. Now, 'scuse me while I watch this cautionary video.
'When you love somebody it's hard to think about anything but to breathe...'I think I like the songs best that say SO much without TRYING to say so much...
