How often is it that you go to a concert nowadays and hear an opening band and it inspires you to buy their cd? For me it is rare. Even though I try to go to all shows with an open mind and really listen to a bands music if I have never heard them prior. I had only heard of Frightened Rabbit because they were opening for a band near and dear to my heart, Pinback. I scanned their website and My...
Originally posted at Ghost of Electricity. Go there, see me, say hi, stay awhile, subscribe. It's about time this list came out. I know that alot of lists have already seen daylight, and I've certainly been teasing for a while, but the truth is, I've discovered so much music this year. Particularly, in the last two months. If I had already written my list, then I probably would have chan...
I think I might have taken this way too far. I could have made a Top 5, 7, maybe 12. But I went through and tried to rank about 65 albums over the last 2 weeks... anyway, here's how it turned out. Of the albums I heard/purchased in 2008, I present to you my top 40: 40. The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride39. John Legend - Evolver38. Murs - Murs For President37. Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins3...

There have been so many great records out of Scotland this year: 1990s, Twilight Sad, (reissued) Fire Engines, Young Knives. Still let's add one more, Frightened Rabbit whose debut, Sing the Greys is out today in the US. Here's a bit from my Dusted review:Sing the Greys is Frightened Rabbit's first full-length album, released in slightly less polished form in the UK last year, but beefed up a...
i'm sure this has already burned up the mogosphere for months already, but fuck me i love this band. i miss scotland so much it burns. even glasgow. i had such a blast there. such a great fucking city and it so doesn't (but sometimes it does) deserves it's bad rap.
So I was the only person on either Pazz and Jop or Idolator to pick Frightened Rabbit last year, but this year, everybody's on top of them. I'm hoping to review their new album, out in April (and, if experience is any guide, it'll be less exciting than the first one and get lots more press). Still, this mp3 is pretty damned sweet. Boo! Did I scare you?
The Onion's A.V. Club has posted their yearly review of music and it's pretty darn great. At least as far as the more "mainstream" indie stuff goes. All in all I side probably 70% with them, but then I also just don't have a taste for hip hop/r&b/rap. Nevertheless...
Frightened Rabbit...where have you been all my life?? In Scotland apparently, having your heart broken about a million times and writing amazing songs...I am smitten. It really is love at first listen... if you believe in that sort of thing.
I'm diggin this track from their second album, released in April 2008. And I'm loving how his Scottish accent reveals itself ever so slightly like a girl whose oversized shirt exposes one bare shoulder.Scott Hutchison (vocals/guitar)Grant Hutchison (drums/vocals)Billy Kennedy (guitar)Andy Monaghan (keyboards/guitar)

Remember our post about Scott Hutchison appearing on Off the Beaten Tracks a few days ago? Well there’s more.Scott also did an exclusive cover of Neutral Milk Hotel’s song “Song Against Sex.” It’s not a bad cover, but this version lacks the X factor that is Jeff Mangum. Sorry Hutchison, but we will admit that [...]
