The people behind "Zappanale Festival,":http://www.en.zappanale.de/index_en.html the German-based Frank Zappa dedicated music festival, are being sued by Frank Zappa's widow. Gail Zappa believes that using her late husband's name has a price tag, a £200,000 price tag. She also has some other demands. "Ms. Zappa wants to pick the acts performing and wants a new logo that doesn't carry Zappa's t..
I have thought about this more than once: I have never (for an extended period of time) lived alone. I went from parents, to roomates in college, to roomates in Minneapolis, New Haven, New London, Chicago, and then I got married. My roomate situations have been many, but one thing has remained constant. I usually roomed with people who were as crazy or crazier about music than me.In the previou...
Crap. I can't find my favorite Frank Zappa clip on YouTube. It's his musical performance of "I'm the Slime" from the '76 season of Saturday Night Live. It's a classic. Back when there was no CGI or special effects, Zappa managed to have slime ooze out over a TV on the set. But, it doesn't exactly ooze, it more like streamed down the TV set. Whatever speed the slime fell at the track is my favor...
I saw this cartoon and just had to post it. I remember, bo, bo! This album made a very big impression on me at my tender age of 17. Not just noise and confusion. Note the jazz and modern "classical" compositional techniques. It certainly can happen here, and it does all the time.
So Lonesome Cowboy Burt has stepped on a rainbow at age 70:From The Independent:Jimmy Carl Black: Drummer and vocalist with The Mothers of Invention"Hi boys and girls, I'm Jimmy Carl Black, and I'm the Indian of the group". This was how the drummer and occasional singer with the original line-up of The Mothers of Invention would introduce himself on stage and on record.Led by the guitarist, com...
We got several inches of the wet white stuff yesterday but it was nothing compared to the Montana pictures I was looking at this morning.Maybe if you could play the song and watch the vid with the sound turned down it would give a Floyd in Oz sort of experience, maybe not. This is for all of you that might be snowblind this morning.
New England Patriots Cheerleader Angela.SportsBlogNflByBubba mailbag: By Bob Cerm | SportsByBrooks.com SbB Editor(Q.) I am a former Pro Football Player, so hopefully you’ll take my question! "Nipple ring search procedures faulty, TSA admits":http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/28/nipple.ring/?iref=mpstoryviewThe Transportation Security Administration said Friday its officers at a Texas airport appear to have properly followed procedures when they allegedly forced a woman to remove her nipple rings -- one with pliers -- but acknowledged the procedures should be changed.Mandi Hamlin, at ce...
Called a bunch of old pals, plus my old Beauticide drummer Matt. He's a huge Zappa fan! Terry Bozzio is a huge influence on the dude! He studied a bit at Cal Arts in S. Ca. with Ed Man. He hated the school, and well thats all I say. He's pretty much privately taught like myself. But here's some Zap to ya' bro and to working with ya' again!
So i was looking at the ID3 tags someone put on a couple of mp3s of stuff by Frank Zappa, and whoever it was had marked the genre as "Alternative".I'm trying to imagine the reaction of the man who once described himself as "a composer who operates a guitar" at being put into the same category as REM...Hysterical laughter followed by a truly crushing put-down of the way that useful tags so quick...

and, after you digest that one, try this:British author *Terry Pratchett*, in one of his hilarious (and often thought-provoking) "Discworld" fantasy novels (*Soul Music*, in which the Discworld goes through the entire history of rock and roll in about three weeks) has a sequence with a guitar maker telling the troll that works in his shop"...and if one more wanker tries to play *Pathway to Para...
Observe the above cover photo for Frank Zappa's album, Hot Rats.Someone with just a bit of mildly esoteric photographic knowledge can tell you that it was shot on infrared color film (originally developed for the purpose of detecting camouflage in World War Two, since green paint and green leaves, for instance, reflect differing amounts of infrared)On a roll of IR color film, the layer that nor...
