This is Your Brain on Music

Artist:
Album:
Track:
I'm in the middle of this book by Daniel Levitin called "This is your brain on Music". So far it's an elegant examination of the brain's processes in perceiving music. Some of it is pretty technical - a conversation about frequencies of harmonics/overtones and some other sophisticated music theory shouldn't drag the dedicated reader down too much. Anyway, I thought it appropriate to talk about this book a little for my first post since this MOG thing seems to have a "br... MORE

A mash note to a mogger, or Frank Black and me in a hot tub.

Blog post image preview OK, the header might be misleading or least a little disturbing to Frank Black. So, I’m sitting in a hot tub (part post-surgery therapy, part indulgence) and I don’t want to listen to the new-agey nature sound crapola that is supposed to help me separate mind and body (a bottle of Jack and pack of Camels would do it but they don’t seem to be on the approved list for some reason) and I have an un-listened to copy of Fast Man Raider Man. Wow Black continues down an alt-... MORE

I’m not a fan of the Pixies. Maybe it’s because I was introduced tothem nearly a decade after their last album was released or maybe, aside from “Where Is My Mind?” and “Gigantic” they just weren’t poppyenough for me. I don’t know, but I do know that I’ve loved themajority of Frank Black’s post-Pixies material. Fast Man RaiderMan, Black’s latest album, is a continuation of his 2005 albumHoneycomb. For both albums, Black traveled to Nashville, Tennesseeto record with some of... MORE

Blog post image preview ...and in my finest hour, as he stepped off the tour bus, and in my biggest moment of excitement, I yell "Frank!" instead of Charles. :-// I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree. Even my street cred with myself dropped exponentially. So the question that begs to be answered: As a fan and not a personal friend, would you address him by one of his stage names or real name? More photos to come. :-)
