I was pleasantly surprised when I caught the tail end of this song on the radio last weekend. I haven't heard it in well over 6 years, and have to admit that I'd completely forgotten about it. A tribute of sorts to Kurt Cobain from a band with a really tragic story of its own. It's hard not to let that filter into the listening experience, but this is a really powerful song, no matter what.
I have forgotten most of the alt rock bands that surfaced then disappeared following the Grunge revolution of the late 80's/early 90's. For Squirrels though I will probably never forget...sadly due to their tragic history. The band formed in Gainesville,FL in the early 90's and released three albums I think. I always loved this song...and the album so dissapointed me! If memory serves there was some sort of tragedy in the band which helped to derail their career...I can't remember. But I always loved this song, I always imagined it was about Kurt Cobain but I never really knew...enjoy my trip down memory lane!
