FIELD MUSIC: YOUR NEW FAVORITE BAND
Blog post image preview

Field Music is a UK-based band with two full lengths, and a handful of EPs. My friend Rachel let me listen to their 2005 release "Write Your Own History," and I was immediately a fan. What I like most about FM is the instrumentation on their new album: organic drums, wise violin arrangements, and warm acoustic guitar.Easily Compared With: The Shins, Midlake, Margot & The Nuclear So ans Sos.

According to docopenhagen.blogspot.com - not my list - fact is most of the bands were unfamiliar to me. But I bet a bunch 'O MOGgers heard of 'em. And I didn't watch every one completely (it is the holiday season after all with many things to stimulate aurally - ho ho ho) - # 17 Field Music is conceptually hip. I liked it and the sound was just pop enough to grab me. Which of these bands is wor...

What Is Playing in My Car These Days: Field Music
over 3 years ago

For the past month or two, I have been listening to the same cd over and over again in my car. This is partially due to the fact that I am terrible at maintaining physical cds so I'll leave one in the player for ages so it won't (inevitably) end up on the floor, but mostly because I am an obsessive listener. I don't really drive that much, so the music forms a little 5 minute buffer between h...

I started dipping into the "free" CDs that come with recent issues of MOJO. These are "Beatles"-themed CDs where other artists cover (usually poorly) all the songs from an entire Beatles LP. These two stand out, however. Field Music has been reviewed as "Steely Dan for the 00s". But apparently without the hits, as I think I remember that they've broken up. For a taste of their experimentation, ...

Hi Ho Hi Ho It's Off to work YOU go - Work song #3: from Field Music

After reading reviews comparing this group to Steely Dan, I listened to some samples and bought their third CD, which this is from. This is one of my faves off the CD - I enjoy its jerky rhythms. Check it out.I am enjoying a few days off between assignments so, for once, I am posting a work song but relaxing at home instead. From All Music.com: Hailing from Sunderland, England, indie/art rock tr...

Hiatus Never Means Having to Say You're Sorry: The Return of Field Music Imminent!

No matter what anyone tells you, there are only two possible outcomes when bands split up: 1. One part of the group becomes arena-selling megastars while the other part(s) withers and dies from talent/attention envy, and 2. All parties soldier on releasing terrible records on their own, stubbornly refusing to admit that despite wanting to bludgeon their former bandmate(s) nightly, they can't po...
