Faust, Luke Vibert Play UK Festival

The 2007 Venn Festival in Bristol, UK will be held from May 31 to June 3rd. Looks like a lot of good downtempo/electronica/space rock/atmospheric type bands. i also see some vaudville acts in there as well. should be worth it for the Faust set alone! Faust play "krautrock" but really spacey type stuff. like spacmen3 meet neu! or something. i am still kicking myself for not seeing Faust w...

I recently got into Faust. Well, “got into” sounds much more involved than I would really say. “Became interested in,” maybe. I’ve downloaded a couple of their albums from emusic, and find them to be one of the more interesting bands I’ve ever discovered. I have the self-titled album, which I have not been able to listen through more than once, the second album, which I really like, and 71 ...

First I read of a "new Faust album":http://www.art-errorist.de/ mixed by Steve Stapleton and Colin Potter (Nurse With Wound) and a track for download via jh peron's site. (goto the site for the DL) The next email from the NWW list heralded the passing of Nettelbeck. Blessed be.So, this morning, I find "WFMU":http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/01/uwe_nettelbeck_.html has a good 'obit' by Brian ...

Faust Rien CD "From 1971 to 1975, Germany's Faust carved a megalithic reputation as the greatest avant-garde group of the era. Formed in the spirit of the May '68 uprisings, they inspired the term 'Krautrock,' influenced generations of subsequent bands, and to this day define an entire genre. In 1994, Table of the Elements brought the reclusive Faust to America for the first time, taking them o...

I am having one of my MOG vs. World discourses-the ones between, you know, myself and I. The source of the great divide is this. Masses: like musing with background music on. Moggers: like music with background musing on. Excuse the elitism but take the case of instrumental music, relegated to escorting office toilers, lobby dallyers or elevator riders, only on Planet Hoi Polloi.Myself, I accom...

Krautrock. Out of all the genres I've discussed so far, no doubt this is the one that the majority of you loyal readers out there will be familiar with. This is the genre of Can, of Neu!, of Tangerine Dream, and without a doubt is the progressive style that has the most street cred. It certainly has been a huge influence on music from the 70's through today, and because of that it seems that...

#22 Ten more to go

I guess nine, after this, right? I promised 31 content-filled posts at the beginning of the month, and I have to say I never realized it would be this hard! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though. During my not-quite-two years here there have been weeks and weeks on end where I had nothing to post about, so the fact that it is catching up with me isn't really all that newsworthy. What I want...

#24 Some more Faust. Literally genre-defining, this one
6 months ago

I made a post earlier today that had a Faust video attached to it, and it generated a couple of positive responses. I spent some time afterwards scanning youtube for more Faust videos and was actually surprised by the amount of content I found there. Faust is a band I've posted on before, so I won't go into details here. Suffice to say that they are one of the most enigmatic and boundary-bre...
