All Music GuideThe music on this out-of-print two-LP set is classic; fortunately all of the performances have since been reissued on CD. The great bop trumpeter Fats Navarro is featured in a couple of Tadd Dameron groups (which also include altoist Ernie Henry and tenors Charlie Rouse, Wardell Gray and Allen Eager), in a famous set of trumpet battles with his main influence Howard McGhee ("Double Talk" is particularly exciting) and on a remarkable quintet session with pianist Bud Powell and the young tenor Sonny Rollins. Brilliant and historic music.
