Before starting work on their debut album, Fanfarlo released several low-key singles, treading the familiar path of many modern indie bands and building a small but devoted fanbase before they even had an album. Their early releases had many bloggers in a tizzy – as well they might, what with the combination of violin, guitar,…

“Just let the comets lead the way,” sing Fanfarlo on this album’s fourth track, ‘Comet’, and indeed this is perhaps the best advice to be given to listeners of the band. Here is a group of musicians full of colour, beauty and energy in its melodic offerings, and the London five-piece are totally awe-inducing and [...]

I wrote a short blurb about this band a few months back seeing potential in a whimsical and well structured act that could easily fill a room as soon as they establish an audience. I bought their album when it was only a buck ($1) and put it off to the side for the time being. [...]

There's quite the buzz building around UK band Fanfarlo and their new album Reservoir. They've worked hard promoting it both live and through innovative use of new media. But is the album worthy of the hype that's being generated? The band makes use of pianos, strings, and horns alongside traditional rock instrumentation to create songs with a decidedly Brit Rock bent. This gives tracks like "

So I haven't been paying my NPR e-mails much attention these days, however, the other day I decided to sneak a peak at some of them and I'm glad I did. For a second I wondered what other music I've been missing out on, but then snapped out of it when I remembered I really can't handle any new additions anyway--hence the lack of attention I stated above. Anyway, NPR's All S...

Fanfarlo has three key influences, in my opinion. First, the blaring trumpet and deep lead vocals on tracks like “The Walls Are Coming Down” reminisce of early Beirut (circa The Gulag Orkestar). Then, there’s the anthemic qualities in songs like “Luna”, which conjure artists such as Arcade Fire. And, finally, the theatrics of greats like The Decemberists. Still, I feel safe saying th

mp3//Smartly-dressed, happy chappies/lady Fanfarlo are keeping busy, releasing one of the more uplifting, go-nuts acoustic anthems from their near-flawless debut ‘Reservoir’.The visuals above show a man attempting to escape a straight-jacket whilst the band below pretend not to notice. A bit rude, when you think about it.

"Harold T. Wilkins" - Fanfarlo Sparkly and quirky-poppy in a way that harkens back to early Talking Heads, "Harold T. Wilkins" shows off this London-based sextet's capacity to turn its interest in historical obscurities into offbeat but engaging pop. (The band named itself after the poet Baudelaire's one novella, so they're serious about this stuff.) Wilkins was a British journalist who wr...
