Fanfarlo's recent début 'Reservoir' is still whipping critics, fans and newcomers into a frenzy and whilst they'll finish off a fantastic 2009 with their current US tour, they'll be beginning 2010 right here in the UK. Beginning on February 9th in Bristol, the band play a total of five nights, finishing at the Brighton Audio on the 13th.
You couldn't of got into a Fanfarlo gig at this years CMJ Music Marathon even if you tried due to the sizable crowd that collected as they hit the stage so it's good to know that in just three days time, the band are set to take off on a new US tour.
Fanfarlo has three key influences, in my opinion. First, the blaring trumpet and deep lead vocals on tracks like “The Walls Are Coming Down” reminisce of early Beirut (circa The Gulag Orkestar). Then, there’s the anthemic qualities in songs like “Luna”, which conjure artists such as Arcade Fire. And, finally, the theatrics of greats like The Decemberists. Still, I feel safe saying th

Who?A young London band led by Swede Simon Balthazar, Fanfarlo make dreamy orchestral indie-pop a la the likes of Beirut and the Arcade Fire. While the they already have major buzz across the pond, Fanfarlo are just starting to build a US following. And I care because?- That voice! Those Instruments! Making use of trumpets, mandolins, strings, and other oddball instruments, the band continues ...
Fanfarlo released their debut album, Reservoir, earlier this year; and, if this album is an even remotely accurate portrayal of their musicianship, then we will be hearing about them for quite some time. The 5 person, multi-instrument band (which even features a Melodica... that can be yours for a mere $33.00) recorded Reservoir in Connecticut late last year. The band will undoubtedly be compar...
CMJ '09 has begun and here is the beginning of my fairly half assed coverage! Seriously, I apologize for my lack of updates and at the same time I don't. The career aspect of my life has taken off, and subsequently taken me off blogger for the majority of my time. I really have mixed emotions about this, considering how long I have been writing this blog and how far it has taken me both personally
Before starting work on their debut album, Fanfarlo released several low-key singles, treading the familiar path of many modern indie bands and building a small but devoted fanbase before they even had an album. Their early releases had many bloggers in a tizzy – as well they might, what with the combination of violin, guitar,…

Fanfarlo were the headliners but support act First Aid Kit stole the show. They were a revelation. Their songs have a sophistication that belies their young years and while the instrumentation, mainly just acoustic guitar with some keyboards, was accomplished it is the voices that set them apart.Read the full review

Even though the British quintet has been around since the mid-to-late 2000s, I just recently discovered Fanfarlo through the power of thier infectious and ubiquitous hit single "I'm a Pilot." Even though they did an in-store performance at Amoeba Records in San Francisco earlier in the day, the took the stage at 11:30 pm and captivated the packed house at Rickshaw Stop in Hayes Valley. A few ph...
