When it comes to cover versions, I don’t know that there are hard and fast rules for a good one, necessarily. Staying completely faithful to the original is, well, pointless: if you’re not going to bring something new, why bother? Stray too far and you alienate fans of the song. The important thing, as with life, is to have fun – and in doing so, show enough love of a song to, for the four minutes or so that it lasts, make it your own. I went out to Santa Monica for the first time today...even rode the Ferris Wheel, i was SUCH a tourist!
Everclear's Sparkle And Fade album was then playing in my head all day. I LOVED this record. I listened this thing into the ground when I bought it oh so many moons ago.

this takes me back to 1998/99. brobably the best year and a half of my life I was just finishing highschool I'd finally fought my way out of mediocrity and found my identity as a rebellious badass who got suspended from school and listened to the wrong kind of music. (take into account that this was a christian school on a mission base in Papua New Guinea.) Now today...today I didn't like LA. It was just one of THOSE days. If there was a wrong turn to take, i took it. Seriously...everything I did today screamed NEW GUY IN TOWN. Just one of those days. I felt like a total fish out of water! I am not sure that until today I realized that I had moved from a city in the Midwest, population(if we are counting ALL the suburbs) is near 500,000 I am guessing... to the greater Los Angeles area's 12 million. After _Nirvana_ and grunge and all that, popular music really splintered off and turned into a whole lot of bland, sound a like schlock, schlock we're still muddling through today for the most part. When this album came out, it was different though, than a lot of what was going on at the time, too bad it wouldn't last. I think this song pretty much sums up what was to be for these guys, a pity, cause _Sparkle and Fade_ was a good disc, I wore it out, too. Hmm, I think t... MORE

I can no longer hate guitar hero. At first, I just thought... these slackers! why cant they just play a real guitar like in real life instead of digitalizing everything!? but after some crazy singing sessions with masters of guitar hero, I've come to realize that it's the music that brings the people together, and it doesn't really matter if you're playing a real instrument or a fake one, the music is still there and it can be an amazing thing if orchestrated properly. So I found out today that there is a new Everclear album coming, Everclear was always one of those bands that you never wanted to admit that you liked. But they at least had 2 albums you could defend. I even enjoyed that double album they put out Songs From An American Movie, yeah it could have been one album and would have been much better if it had been. But there was still enough good song writing to overlook the bad covers, chesssy songs, and Art saying "YEAH" 800... MORE
