I'm always a bit apprehensive about trying new genres of music, I haven't heard much or any of before. But I was browsing amazon.com and looked at someone's list of Top-whatever-albums (don't you love those lists/guides? Speaking of need to update mine soon) and came across a guide to folk or as they put it - I think - fairytale folk, which intrigued me.I've noticed that in The Sun's music re...
Hope all you Philly peeps are going to make it out to the great event of the weekend... TONIGHT! at the International House, presented by the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, a screening of Jaromil Jire's 1970 classic Valerie and Her Week of Wonders with a new live soundtrack by my friends:Greg Weeks (Espers, Grass), Margaret Wienk (Fern Knight, Eyesores, String Builder), Brooke Sietinsons (Espers...
It's Shred Yr Face Week here at Strange Glue so go ahead and grab that cheese-grater and let's get started. All jokes aside, we're pretty serious about providing you guys with some great content over the course of the week and so in an extra special, Shred Yr Face Video Of The Week feature, we've decided to share not one, not two but three entire videos with you.
In the time since I first heard Espers and shrugged them off as twee folksy flouncers Ihave experienced a sudden connection with the late sixties throughearly seventies British folk-rock that so many link this band to. Richard & Linda Thompson, Fairport, Sandy Denny, Fotheringay… Okay,so my remit is still pretty narrow, circling around a handful ofmusicians who were certainly not the be all and.
I figured my first post should be about my current favourite track. Dead King by Espers is quite lovelly and easy to listen to. From their second album, and in my opinion, their best. I have sent this song all over addicting many people to the wonderful music.
They were halfway through the recording when the drugs began to take hold. That, at least, is the only explanation I can muster for the break from reason and sanity that takes place just before the four minute mark in “Hearts and Daggers”. What was previously an eerie funeral march of a song (“When daylight strikes them, their graves will shatter; flies will gather for hearts and daggers”
It's Shred Yr Face Week here on Strangeglue, and what better way to kick things off - than an amazing competition! We've got a pair of tickets for EACH show of the Shred Yr Face tour which features Espers as headliners, along with The Cave Singers and Woods.
It's hard to top the last two incarnations of the Shred Yr Face tour. Featuring the likes of Los Campesinos, No Age, The Bronx and Fucked Up, Shred Yr Face has become the tour to show off yr energy, yr spirit and yr ability to blow the in-house speakers with just one rasping vocal.
A nice, fairly boozy dinner party with our new friends Ben & Helen resulted in a very drafty but promising composition (Needs tons of work obviously..)Very much Espers in spirit, I thought.
