This two-LP set reissues Eric Dolphy's Far Cry and Where, a Ron Carter date featuring Dolphy. Together they make for an excellent all-around set that showcases the talents of Dolphy on alto, bass clarinet and flute. The former session matches Eric with trumpeter Booker Little, pianist Jaki Byard, bassist Carter and drummer Roy Haynes; highlights include "It's Magic," "Miss Ann" and an unaccompanied alto feature on "Tenderly." Carter's set features the leader doubling on cello and bass and joined by Dolphy, pianist Mal Waldron, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Charlie Persip for some stirring music well worth listening to closely.
