On this day, March 30, 1945, Eric Clapton was born in Surrey, England. On his 13th birthday he received an acoustic guitar. It turned out to be a good gift.

Eric Clapton has been invited to play a concert in North Korea, despite the country’s nuclear ambitions being a cause for international concern.
The guitar legend is provisionally set to play the state capital Pyongyang in 2009, having agreed to the idea "in principle" reports the BBC .
Clapton's performance would be unusual as rock and pop are forbidden in the isolated state, because of their Western influences.
Classical music, on the other hand, is v... MORE

From Publishers Weekly
Readers hoping for sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll won't be disappointed by the legendary guitarist's autobiography. How do you cram forty years of rock 'n' roll into under four hundred pages? I liked the book. However, I didn't feel that there was any groundbreaking revelations presented. I guess if you live your life as an open book, it leaves it harder to write one. I'd like to hear what others who have read the book have to say.... MORE

Eric Clapton at the Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT. This is the second time I saw Clapton in Hartford, the first was on the Journeyman tour in 1990. At the time of this show, I was actually kinda disappointed and since then I always preferred the 1990 show... I recently acquired this recording, though, and the show is much better, much ballsier, than I remember it being. I poked around on some Clapton fan sites and it seems to have quite a reputation with the f... MORE

I finally finished the first draft of my dissertation today. It's just the first draft and there is more to do, but it's a huge weight off my mind. And this is the song that has kept me going over the past two days. I don't know why. It just worked out that way.... MORE

Hey, you! Yes, you who are about to shove your finger down your throat. Stop. This isn't about the song. It's about the performance, and not even Clapton's performance. There are some great musicians who are comfortable enough in their own skin to step aside for a moment, and let other, not-well-known, artists have a moment, in the spotlight, to let their talents shine. Clapton has always appreciated other musicians, and, aside from his own music, I think one of... MORE

This acoustic piece is so perfectly rendered by Eric Clapton. A far superior rendition than most, as it is entirely acoustic guitar.

ERIC CLAPTON lyrics - Lost And Found Falling in the deep end
Stop messin' around
I cant keep from falling
When your not around
I cant no rest when you leave
Your love keeps me burnin'
You got me lost and found
And my world keeps turnin' It's not the same
When your gone
Feel like I'm
Half of myself
Cause i need to have you around I need to hear that sound
Of you creepin in the mornin'
I need to look in your eyes
When it keeps me learnin' It's... MORE

Anybody else catch this review by Stephen King of "Clapton"? "Most A.A. meetings begin with the chairman offering his qualifications at the head table next to the coffee maker. This qualification is more commonly known in the program as the drunkalogue. It’s a good word, with its suggestions of inebriated travel, and it certainly fits Eric Clapton’s account of his life. “Clapton” is nothing so literary as a memoir, but its dry, flat-stare honesty makes it a welcome antid... That Clapton is a guitar god is pretty much accepted on every planet. Less appreciated I think, is his remarkable ability as a singer. Note I did not say vocalist, I said singer. Though it hasn't happened too often in his career, he has on occasion reached deep into a song to find his own turtured voice. Ironically Its usually a cover tune.
So....The verdict?... MORE

On October 9th Clapton will release both his aptly-titled autobiography Clapton: The Autobiography and double-disc career-spanning album Complete Clapton.
