Although written for yet another spaghetti Western, Che C'entriamo Noi con la Rivoluzione? is by no means a typical entry in the Ennio Morricone catalog. An appealingly mellow and soulful score with a wonderfully tongue-in-cheek spirit, it affords il Maestro the rare opportunity to lampoon the hallmarks and signatures of his own genre-defining aesthetic. Morricone subtly twists and tweaks the basic elemental makeup of his music, creating a score distinct in his massive body of work yet still unmistakably his and his alone. The idiosyncratic use of mouth organ, piano, and banjo instills even the starkest melody with a welcome undercurrent of whimsy.
