One of my fave things about MOG is knowing who is into what and thinking of each mogger when I come across the different news stories. Whenever I cover a tour in the US, the first thing I do is scan the dates to see if Minne MN is included because Rawkkiddo has drawn my attention to the fact that so many bands pass that city up. It's amazing how something stands out once you become aware of it. So, to highlight this great feature of MOG , I like to dedicate my news pos... MORE

No:477 THE BEAT - I JUST CAN 'T STOP IT (1980) I always believe that The Beat were THE most underated of the Two Tone/Ska bands at the time. They combined genuine reggae with super sharp Clash style riffs to create top rate dance floor chaos. This album was brimming with great songs, and although they never quite re-captured the essence that made "I Just Can't Stop It" such an invaluable album, they left a superb memento of one of the most creative periods of UK m... Over to the left I have The Commodores' Greatest Hits as my first album. Actually, there are three albums I can remember as my first three, and I can't remember which was first. The Commodores is only the most respectable of them, which is why I listed it. The other two were REO Speedwagon's "High Infidelity" and Boston's "Don't Look Back". I also remember buying the 45 of Styx's The Renegade, and the Doobie Brothers' What A Fool Believes. That's as muc... MORE

...from the "Don't Call Me Ska Face Dept: I've been writin' all day and I'm feeling rode hard and put away wet...Right about this time I'm going to fade on out and check by eyelids for cracks...but before I do, here's a little Family Guy parody of one of a great movie sequence (the "running back to the crib" scene from Ferris Beuller's Day Off)...it's a double-sweet discovery because it also features the funky cut "Rotating Heads" by The English Beat from their Special Beat S... My friends brother did something that got me to thinking. He does that... He was quite critical of "The English Beat" who I saw in Marquette, MI last Saturday. He said that they didn't have a lot of energy. I thought they were amazing. Really really tight. I could have bounced quarters off of them. People who had NO idea who they were were just going bonkers. I thought the pacing was just great. I was really floored. I really didn't expect much. What an awsome party... MORE

i think i have mentioned before that i am originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have lived downstate for about 14 years. Most of my college friends and family still live up there. No one tours the UP.
They have some casinos up there now so they get some shows there.
In August it is the UP state fair and there are always such crowd pleasers as 2nd tier country stars and 80's bands(i think foreigner was there this past year.)
When i was in high school th... MORE
