Blog post image preview Demain, je suis alle a Nice avec ma copine, Jane. Je vais relaxer a la plage, visiter les musees, dancer a la boom et boire du vin. That may be a load of cobblers. I'm trying to practise my French which I haven't used very much for so long, because I am going to Nice. My brain usually clicks into French-ish speaking mode when I'm in France. I'm sure my pronunciation ain't trop chic. But I'll try my best. I am going to stay in my mum's pal's apartment. He takes... MORE

I'm getting ready to fake sick at work so my best friend/roommate and I can ditch down to her beach house in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico for a long weekend, and while I was packing up my million cds (because I refuse to own an iPod), I uncovered my long lost Emilie Simon mix cd I made ages ago then lost when I moved to LA. Ironically enough, I first heard Emilie Simon when I saw her video play on Mexican MTV while in Ensenada many moons ago. It all comes full circle... MORE

Blog post image preview 21st June: 9.30. I got to see her at a small venue called The Borderline in April and was mightily impressed. She was a chic and charming cyborg, dressed in a pink princess dress, controlling the electronic sounds with a big black switchboard attached to her arm. Experimental stuff: splashing of water, looping of sounds, dreamy, ethereal, and sometimes playful, both lyrically and sonically. Talented and stunning, a young lady who has obviously benefitted from havi... MORE

I saw Emilie Simon's new video yesterday and was glad to say I loved it! Interesting song with a great video to match. That's one thing that'll get my attention musicwise. I did coughdownloadcough her first album and totally loved I Wanna Be Your Dog and Chanson De Toile from it, but didn't like the other songs as much. But because of her interesting songs and her amazing videos (if you make a cool video, you've got my respect!), I really wanted to like her. I think this... MORE

Blog post image preview ...I have a stack of CDs for review that I'm just getting around to checking and one of them is March of the Empress (which streeted on the 3rd) by France's Emilie Simon who made her debut in the states last year with the album The Flower Book. This newer outing features tunes from the French version of Luc Jacquet's 2005 documentary La Marche De l'Empereur (March of the Penguins) and has never been released in the US in its full configuration...Let me dive right on in and... Well, I was going to upload a song in this post, but despite it being within the size limit and being an mp3, it didn't work and I lost all my text. Boo! So back to my post. I downloaded one of Emilie Simon's albums a while back and fell in love with two of the songs I Wanna Be Your Dog and Chanson De Toile. (I Wanna Be Your Dog is a bit on the short side though! :( ) I love Chanson De Toile, it just sounds so haunting and I would love to hear more songs like that.... MORE

I really like it. I think it's powerful in a different way to Nirvana's. It's more gothy and haunting. Listening to it, there's menace in the air. I think it would be great for the soundtrack of a vampire movie.

Blog post image preview The MySpace site states, 'Female indie-music festival, « Les Femmes s’en melent » built up its celebrity over 10 years. in France and abroad, celebrating women in music. Born in 1997 as a single gig in Paris, the event is now spred over several nights in Paris, other cities of France, Belgium, Switzerland and England. Driven by passion and curiosity, renown for its ecclectism and quality, the festival is about feminity but far from feminism. Back in London for its 10th a... MORE
