The fantastical Elliot Smith released a fair amount of material in his lifetime but none stood as truly memorable as his début 'Roman Candle'. It's good news then, that his label Kill Rock Stars have decided to re-release that exact album as well as the brilliant post-humous 2004 effort From A Basement On A Hill.
Back in 1994, Roman Candle was originally released on Cavity Search Records and ten years later, From a Basement on the Hill was posthumously released on ANTI-records.On April 26, 2010, Kill Rock Stars will reissue both of these LPs, completing the label's collection of Elliott's independent releases in its entirety. ...

As I've been thinking about the decade in music, one question in particular is how Elliott Smith fits in. I saw him perform solo acoustic in the fall of 2000, which was at the beginning of my fandom. I worked backwards from Figure 8 through the rest of his albums, experiencing his evolution in reverse. After his death, his final record would have to stand as a final statement. And From A Basement
Alright, alright - Elliott Smith did a cover on Metric's 'Between The Bars' right? and then Madeleine Peyroux covered it as well. right? I'm totally confused. I don't know who did it first - please help! I personally like Elliott Smith's and Madeleine Peyroux's version the most. But I really just like the song, so any version of it is fine with me.
