Alt-indie rockers Elbow were awarded the prestigious Mercury Music Prize, the annual music prize given for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. Elbow, who formed way back in 1990, won for their 2008 release The Seldom Seen Kid. Not only did the album peak at Number 5 on the UK chart and Number 109 in the US, but it was also entirely self-produced, mixed and recorded by Elbow. Elbow beat out Radiohead, Adele, Burial, British Sea Power, Estelle, the Last... MORE

"Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Feather's on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me makes me lighter
Feather's on my breath"
Hearing those lyrics reminds of the breathy otherworldly vocal by Elizabeth Fraser on Massive Attack's classic song "Teardrop." Her singing is seductive, understated and so beautiful. Why would anyone attempt to replicate the darkness and purity of "Teardrop?"
I just discovered this cover version by Elbow and it's so good, rumor has it that Mas... MORE

Elbow’s The Seldom Seen Kid shocked quite a few people when it was announced as the Mercury Prize winner as it beat out the likes of Burial’s Untrue and Radiohead’s In Rainbows. I really didn’t check out many albums on the Mercury shortlist for one reason or another. I didn’t like British Sea Power’s Do [...]

I've been thinking about this for a while. These lists are guaranteed to be updated and changed and totally messed around, but as of right now, here's how my concert experiences rank. I'd like to hear how yours rank too! TOP 5 CONCERTS!These are tough, and take a lot of thought, but I'm pretty set in this list so far. It hurts me a little bit that my favorite band did not make this list, despite having seen them twice. Little hint, Mr. Scott Anderson, don't get plastered... MORE
Life has been busy lately. Actually, no, scrap that. To be more precise: the preoccupations that make up my life have been intensely time-consuming lately. This is so because a lot of changes—professional and personal—has recently materialized. Some were self-imposed, most were beyond me. In any case, they all translate to major re-adjustment. All this would explain why I've been exhausted and grumpy lately. (Yes, exhausted and grumpy.) It's not exactly easy to deal w... MORE
I posted this list on the BAGeL Radio blog about a month ago, not sure why I failed to post it here, I bet some folks here would get a kick out of it and have similar lists of their own to share. This list would be different if I were to reconsider it in light of releases that have since arrived from Tilly & The Wall, Feral Children, mrandmrsmays, Darker My Love, Elephone, The Gang, Notwist, Sybris, Wolf Parade -- of the top of my head -- but I'm leaving it as it was or... is one of the tracks from Elbow. Elbow won the Mercury prize this year. This song "Grounds for Divorce" is featured on the trailer for the Coen Brothers' film Burn after Reading starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and John Malkovich. They come from Bury and have been around for a while.
Elbow is a Manchester based indie pop/rock band. Its music can be placed somewhere between Radiohead and Coldplay. Over the years Elbow's innovative sound and candid and evocative lyrics have been praised by the likes of Blur, R.E.M, U2 and John Cale. Lead singer Guy Garvey met guitarist Mark Potter at college in 1990, who was in a band with drummer Richard Jupp and bassist Pete Turner. Guy joined the band, and so did Mark's brother Craig. At first they called themselv... MORE

Elbow are an English band from Manchester, who have been active from the late 1990s.Acclaimed for their innovative sound and frontman Guy Garvey's candid, evocative lyrics, Elbow has received vast critical acclaim and been endorsed by major artists Blur, R.E.M. and U2.
