The problem with Slither is that it is not challenging. The music is heavy and well played, a synthesis between the band's early-'90s hardcore roots and the "new metal" of Korn and the Deftones. However, nothing particularly stands out about it. Devices such as melodic choruses and breaks stand out at first but fall into over-use as the disc plays onward. The group's conviction is admirable as always, though, and Slither will probably not disappoint longtime fans.
