Dream Theater loves to do covers of old songs. For the most part they do them very well. And as you can hear, there's certainly nothing wrong with the instrument. The vocals, as usual, tend to be strained and pushing past the limit of Mr Labrie.Overall, though, I still like it.

~~The special edition of Dream Theater's latest CD "Black Clouds and Silver Linings" contains one whole disk of just covers. This is one of them. You gotta give them credit for even attempting a Queen song, let alone a medley. When it comes to instrumentation, though, they can cover just about any other band with pinpoint accuracy. The vocals? That's another story. James LaBrie is an excellent D...

Dance

A friend sent me this. It moved me and made me think about a few essential things. It's worth sharing. So if I've annoyed, frustrated, angered, scared, worried, or caused anyone out there to back off just a bit, I'm sorry. Getting to know the real you(s) would be great, and perhaps it will happen one day.The letter says it all. Have a good one! 'I Hope You Dance ..!!! This was written by an 83-...

HAPPY THURSDAY METAL BINGES

Train of Thought is considered their heaviest & my favorite release to date. It was a response to audience's response to their heavier side while touring. The album was completed in three weeks. I have to thank Tyler for his "Happy Thursday Metal Binges." http://mog.com/TylerDurden/blog/192826

So I finally broke down and bought the DVD "Score," Dream Theater's twentieth anniversary 2 disc DVD set containing the entire "20th Anniversary World Tour" grand finale recorded live at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 1st, 2006 (nearly 3 hours of music - over 90 minutes of which was performed with a full orchestra). Some pieces of music should be purchased just because they exis...

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence

Dream Theater is a band that's not new to anyone here in the sphere. But as I continue to find out as I watch the video "Score," they are one of the tightest of any.I watched this video twice over the past two nights. It is, for me, one of the finest, best produced music videos I've seen. And with the addition of the Octovarian orchestra in the background, this is one video we all should have.T...

So this is another fave bands of mine, they do sound a lot like "Fates Warning," this has become one of my favorite live DVD to come out in recent years. Myung the bassist rips as also, but the highlite of the show is all the jamming especially on "Instrumedley," and the "keyborbard solo," which steals the show and a very short big screen tribute appearance from MR. "Frank Zappa" himself. and t...

Repentance

Repentance. Forgiveness. Two terms infrequently heard in the day to day vernacular of life.Repentance meaning turning away from a habit or lifestyle.Forgiveness has been defined as the scent emitted by the rose from beneath the foot that crushes it. We see examples in the occasional headline, of the relative of the boy shot, the girl raped, or some other modern atrocitiy, who forgives the perpe...

Lost Without You

I was down and depressed and bored. I spent my evenings wondering what to do with myself. I'd watch TV but only end up more resentful of what the next day would bring, which was more of the same. Work, TV, work, TV, again and again. Then my best friend in the whole wide world, my wife, reminded me of a former obsession, music. There was a day when I could id any band within 2 opening bars (the m...

MEMBERS OF DREAM THEATER TEAM UP WITH MEMBERS OF NAPALM DEATH TO COVER METALLICA. WAIT, WHAT?!?

It’s not that I think that the members of Napalm Death and Dream Theater have a limited musical palette. Quite the contrary; I’d imagine the musicians that make up these particular bands probably have very diverse tastes.Still. If I found out that Alex Webster listened to a lot of Roni Spektor, I wouldn’t expect a [...]

Does Anyone Like Dream Theater?

Speaking of sweeping, symphonic, proggy, widdly-widdly, odd-time-signaturey type music (well maybe you weren't speaking of it, but I was)...do any MOGgers out there know anything about this band Dream Theater? They've been around for almost 20 years, yet have somehow managed to totally fly under my personal Rawk Radar, which is odd because it seems like the kinda thing I would dig on. (Just so ...

So I installed my old 120G HD into my Linux media server, which added roughly an extra 90G of music (to the 68G-ish on my main desktop), thus restoring my access to a ridiculous collection of music, much of which I have never listened to. (Although it was all acquired with that intent in college... I just never quite got that far...)However, there are some tracks I've come across on it already...
