Speaking of Dr. Dog and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, I forgot to post the lineup on this when it got posted. Or was it just posted today? I didn’t make it out for this at all last year, but you can believe I’ll be in Golden Gate Park for most of that weekend. About Dr. Dog:Dr. Dog is a indie rock/pop band from Philadelphia. They were founded in 1999, when still playing under a different alias. Their sound is often compared to various sixties bands like the Beatles and the Band, only more psychedelic. Critics call Dr.Dog's sound psychedelic indie pop. When they changed their band name to Dr. Dog, they were often mistaken for a hip-hop group. That all ...
What a refreshing experience! A proper live show. After years of pretentious dj sets, "live" laptop mixing, and 'friends gigs' it was so refreshing to see a proper gig. But no i'm not talking about Bruce Springstein live at the Fleet Centre, this was a gig. London's Borderline club is one of those places that if you don't look up you'd definitely miss it. Wel after 6 years of walking past it ev...
First for this one...Caesarthen for this sweet one...Molly Mostly for music though, it's this one...Dr. Dog Dr. Dog has won over my heart, as every other dog in my life has. Their latest album Fate, as said in an article from the man (Mr. Zoot) who introduced me to the phenomenal band is "the record Dr. Dog were destined to make, a timeless yet contemporary distillation of the band's open-ar...
The first time I ever heard Dr. Dog was in my girlfriend's car down in Santa Cruz. Since I'm a wee in the dark when it comes to contemporary masturbation (that is, music appreciation), she's often my educator on today's musical rad. So it's often an adventure when she puts on a CD. After hearing the first 15 seconds or so of Dr. Dog, I wanted to know more. "Who is this?" I asked as we drove thr...
A guy walks into a soda shop and says, "I'd like a chocolate ice cream sundae without the chocolate ice cream." The soda jerks says, "We don't have any chocolate ice cream.""Give it me me without vanilla, then."If you asked for a jam band without the jam, you might get Dr. Dog. They took the stage last night looking suspiciously jammy. Scraggly beards - check. Ironic sunglasses - check. Goofy ...
To say that, when playing live, Dr. Dog stays true to the most important elements of their recorded works is an understatement. But those elements (energy, musicianship, harmony) are certainly not a bad thing. Tuesday night at Webster Hall, in New York City, with a stage decorated with palm-flora in stark contrast to the chilly [...]
Here we are in September, not quite at fall, but still in a post-Labor day (for us in the States), early September haze. Those of us in school have returned to academia, those of us who go for nighttime jogs have found the air to be a bit chili, but those of us who drive a car have still fond the steering wheel extremely hot after prolonged exposure to the end of summer sun. Mother nature see...
I have been played Dr Dog by some friends over the past few months and they are slowly growing on me. I need to see them live. This Lillywhite Session brought to you By NPR is pretty outstanding. Tour Dates. Have any free time Dr Dog? September 27 at the Hi Dive in Denver. See you there. GLH~~
Dr Dog has not yet achieved the recognition they deserve. Delightfuly, deliberately retro in their approach they often recall the heyday of British Psychedelia, in all it's goofy glorius splendor.
Philadelphia based psychedelic rockers Dr. Dog have had their share of ups in down in recent times. The group is set to kick off a whirlwind tour, from Brooklyn to Berlin, in support of their upcoming 5th full length album Fate (Park The Van). The group explains it as an "album Dr. Dog were destined to make", mainly due to the fact that the opportunity to bring new elements into their recordin...
