AMG Review of Chimpfactor

All Music GuideIf this were the early '80s, this sharp New York-area trio of TIM, FLOYD, TIM (no credits) would be famous already, as their power-pop with a capital P straddles the then-conflicting new wave/rock/garage/punk genres with pleasant high energy. "Mr. Bluefish" even borrows heavily from two Cars' hits, "You're All I've Got Tonight" and "Let's Go," but otherwise, they bear more serious fangs, on such burners as "Monkey Wild" and "Fallen Behind." The always-pumping bass, best heard on "Pleasant Trip," is their finest feature, the drumming and singing are warm and smooth, and the songwriting is there. Building on a couple of limited edition 7"s, Chimpfactor secretes more great promise.
