Interviewing Japanese rockstars Dir En Grey — whose excellent new album Uroboros is out now on The End Records — was one of the more challenging tasks I've been faced with as a journalist hack blogger. Interviewing a band you don't know that much about and doing so on short notice? Been there, done that, [...]
Yesterday I received my copy of Dir en Grey's "The Marrow of a Bone" in the mail. Limited edition, of course. :D It came with a 3-song "unplugged" CD, and a cool plastic folder thing, not to mention the shnazzy black-on-black packaging. The CD is as excellent as I knew it would be. If I was slowly going insane then I imagine that this album would be very appropriate soundtrack to that journey. The band manages to tap into normal even soothing moments, but they quickly break open the shell and various sounds and tones coming spilling o...

Over the years, Dir En Grey has come up as a band I should check out. I had tried listening to them several times, and it just never stuck. But when I read this article that talked about fans lining up the night before to see these guys- I knew there had to [...]
