Topic: The Digable Planets This Bohemeian and Muslim influenced hip-hop group ate up some serious car stereo time in my adolescence. I consider them to be the pinnacle of the jazzy hip-hop movement in the early to mid nineties, excellent sampling and an overall creatively stoned vibe and just enough east-coast boom-bap. Happy Funky Friday, MOG Funkateers. I'm in a bit of chill funk mood this morning and dug out the Digable Planets. Not raucously funky, more relaxo funky. I used to play the heck out this CD when it came out 93.

I know I haven't been around lately, but I'm still working on getting situated here in LA. After all, it's been said that good things take time. Things continue to look up, though. Plus I hit the beach last weekend - had to work on my base tan and get my flavor back - and caught Kinky at an outdoor performance at the 3rd Street Promenade. Damn, they're fucking good. The only hiccup I've had, strangely enough, is logging on to MOG. Maybe this laptop doesn't like this site... MORE

The shuffle feature on iTunes is bar none one of the best Apple ideas since the original Mac itself. It not only allows you to dive deeper into your collection but also allows you to rediscover those albums long since passed over. While walking the dog tonight through the Michigan sleet, a Digable Planets song came on the iPod from Blowout Comb, the follow up to the well known 90s release Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) which contains the ubiquitous Rebirth o... After a tasty dinner at Nopa http://www.nopasf.com headed to the Indie, for yet another great show. I was bummed that they didn't have the upstairs open but I quickly got over it. X-clan was not really my gig but I there to see DP anyway. Ok, so maybe I'm just get'n old but 11 on a school night was a bit late. I soaked up as much DP goodness as I could but barely lasted past midnight. In closing...they've still GOT IT!
