Dexter (Keith) Gordon (February 27, 1923 - April 25, 1990) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He is considered one of the first bebop tenor players. A famous by Herman Leonard of Gordon smoking a cigarette during a set at the Royal Roost in New York City in 1948 is one of the more iconic images in the history of jazz.

    Blog post image preview While many people love Dexter Gordon's "Ballads" album, this is it for me. I transcribed every note he plays, and he just tears up every song. Kenny Clarke plays off Gordon like they share a brain, and while this was towards the end of Bud Powell's career, he still plays a mean comping role.
