[September 2009] After a set of dancing and riffing, my engineer/photographer Ben Seretan and I managed to talk to the frenetic Greg Saunier of Deerhoof outside of the ballroom at Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello, NY, during All Tomorrow's Parties NY 2009. We discussed Marshall Allen and Sun Ra, the peculiarity of ATP festivals, and the visuals done by Martha Colburn during Deerhoof's set. ...
The always excellent nyctaper captured Deerhoof’s recent show at Le Poisson Rouge, where the band performed a new song for the first time called “I Did Crimes For You”. Check out the new track below, then head to nyctaper to grab the whole show, including covers of “Pinhead,” “Going Up The Country” and “Let’s [...]
Deerhoof have never been the most "mainstream" of bands but this song as cool as it is, falls more into the category of "Things you hear on your way to hell" and the video only makes it worse. I think I will be losing at least 6 hours of sleep over the next couple of days. But please do watch it, just so you say you did.
Between Avocet’s subtle utilization of forks and thumb pianos, Busdriver’s always animated antics and an especially excellent Close To The Edge sample, and Deerhoof’s manic energy, particularly Greg’s banter regarding their current position on a virtual happiness continuum expressed through a backwards alphabet, this was an greatshow. (definitely not a run-on sentence) Greg and Satomi [...
I usually don't blog much (too lazy, but I must give another post for Deerhoof...The mighty Deerhoof came to Stuttgart the other night and gave a fantanstic show. This was the first show from them for me and hopefully not the last time I get a chance to catch them. The weather was unusually humid during the show and the steam was pouring off the stage (they were literally the Hottest Band on ...
[10-31-2008] Walking into the 40 Watt on Halloween amid throngs of blood-plastered faces and ingeniously-engineered DIY costumes, I immediately recognized that, whether I liked it or not, I would be judging Deerhoof's performance largely on their collective Halloween spirit and attention to costume. So when the band strolled out in mammoth, teetering carnivorous cat masks, excepting drummer Gr...
offend maggieHere's the first song to surface from Deerhoof's highly-anticipated new record. Offend Maggie's title track suggests a sweeter, gentler, more subdued and accessible Deerhoof. Let's hope that's not the case, although this is a nice little ditty (if a little too short). mp3:deerhoof :: offend maggie(via)
Deerhoof played a fantastic set at Fun Fun Fun Fest this past weekend. This was a festival that mixed all genres, so it was great to explore live music I normally wouldn't make a big effort to see. I ended up having a great time because of it. There was some serious buzzing energy leading up to Deerhoof on Saturday. The photo pits were packed tight, so I had to fight and scratch for these...
Today is Deer day here at JPP- A celebration of our two favorite deer's 'hoof & 'hunter. 'Offend Maggie' is available in the shops now & is another ace collection of skewed pop wonder. They have a plethora of live dates between now & Xmas, check here for details. Here's 'Buck & Judy' which borrows just a pinch of 'We will Rock you': Deerhoof- Buck & Judy (Z Share) (YSI)...
Deerhoof released a new video and free mp3 download for Chandelier Searchlight yesterday. They're definitely following the throw-it-all-out-there approach and I love it. They've already given away Fresh Born and the title track, Offend Maggie, so why not let the good times roll?! This video was created and directed by Clyde Petersen & Forrest Baum and is my favorite track on the new album......
Photo by RCM273LDN It's Tuesday October 7, 2008, which means two things for Deerhoof fans. First, you've all no doubt grabbed your copies of Offend Maggie, Deerhoof's new studio album. Secondly it means that I'm posting the second half of my interview with Deerhoof's Greg Saunier! Missed the first part? Catch up before we finish it [...]
