Deer Tick to release four-song EP

The great rock and roll band that is Deer Tick is set to release a four-song EP on Dec. 1st to cap of a year in which they earned universal praise, from obscure taste makers to mainstream behemoths like NBC anchor Brian Williams and Rolling Stone. When I saw the band live earlier this year, it just clicked: this music is classic—something no trend or length of time can change. The EP, More Fuel .

    More Fuel for the Fire

Deer Tick just announced the release of an iTunes-only EP, More Fuel for the Fire, on December 1 via Partisan Records. (Does anyone else already kind of associate Deer Tick with iTunes because of how many times Brian Williams mentioned iTunes in his interview with Deer Tick for MSNBC.com??)The EP features three new studio tracks (taken from a month-long recording session in upstate New York) pl...

Deer Tick Open for Neko Case, Offer Free Tickets to the Lucky Fan That Can Guess How Many Bottles of Whiskey Will Be Consumed Backstage
about 1 month ago

Two "alt-country" artists on the road together is a guaranteed recipe for some late-night whiskey drinking. And since Deer Tick's John McCauley has been doing the alt-country thing since he was 18, I'm assuming he's a pro at finishing off a bottle of Maker's Mark. But can Neko Case keep up? We shall see, as Deer Tick joins Neko on the road for five shows, but not before they play with pals Jonn...

Deer Tick Extend 2009 Tour

I missed their little jaunt on a boat earlier this week, but I will get many more chances to see Deer Tick [MySpace] in 2009. The band (John McCauley and his crew o’ renegade “twang pirates”) are touring in support of their July release, Born on Flag Day. We never got a review [...]

Viva la Vinyl: Deer Tick Goes Tejano....

A couple Thursdays ago, I shot over to Austin just in time to catch Deer Tick tear down Emo's. The Providence boys were obviously not accustomed to Texas heat, and thus were all shirtless by song number 2. That helped open the door for what would turn out to be a no-holds-barred, raucous evening complete with flying beer, John McCauley on the drums, and even a little crowd surfing (see below). ...

Review: Deer Tick - War Elephant (* * * *)

Chalk another one up for " 2008 albums I should have heard but didn't and now that I have I'm realizing how much great music was released last year." Actually, Deer Tick's debut album, War Elephant, was originally released in 2007 but was re-released near the end of last year through Partisan Records, complete with the slightly bizarre cover art you see pictured here. Deer Tick's story is an ...

My Old Kentucky Blog 2008 Holiday Interview Series : John McCauley of Deer Tick
about 1 year ago

Well, my personal opinion of Deer Tick was at risk of taking a nose dive at the end of October when the band skipped out on a scheduled MOKB Presents show due to a "throat infection/lost voice". It was at the end of a tour, a door deal and a fill-in date, but that made it all the more sketchy...or likely. With some time to reflect, and maybe not that they care, I've forgiven them. Plus, I...

Look For Deer Tick.

Rhode Island's own Deer Tick plays the kind of bluejean kick-ass rocknroll that The Stones or The Faces did in their heyday. A deceptively loose lanky rocknroll, as much at home in a city dive as in a biker's bar outside town. This is beer n whiskey rocknroll with a twist of Geothe. John McCauley's leather soled voice & pointed barbed-wire lyrics paint little portraits of everyday souls r...

And that's how John J. McCauley III opened the show. It would have caught me off guard a bit more if I hadn't already read the quote on their MySpace page; however, it still did something for me. I guess the funny thing about it, was that from the looks of Mohawk Place and the conversation I had with John before the show, it wouldn't be totally unexpected if there actual were p...
