disclaimer: I am a bit of a Death Cab fan On April 18th, I was lucky enough to catch Death Cab launching their Narrow Stairs tour at a small venue in Bremerton, WA. Although a teeny bit rusty, they brought it and entertained the crowd welcoming them back to public view. So, I eyed their time slot for Coachella with antipation; will they have shaken off the cobwebs from not touring for over a year? Will they be everything we expect? The answer was "yes" and "no".... "You may tire of me as our December sun is setting because I'm not who I used to beNo longer easy on the eyes but these wrinkles masterfully disguiseThe youthful boy below who turned your way and saw Something he was not looking for: both a beginning and an end But now he lives inside someone he does not recognize When he catches his reflection on accident On the back of a motor bike With your arms outstretched trying to take flight Leaving everything behind But even at ... so i have to admit, much to what i am sure is Groon's chagrin, i like Death Cab for Cutie. i caught the first song by them a year or so ago on one the Sirius stations i listen to. and i have to say i'm really diggin "I Will Follow You into the Dark" right now. maybe it's the funk i've been in, or just the right song at the right time... but i've listened to that album, and song, a few times this week. oh well.. we all have our daemons.
So, I had myself a pretty strange dream last night. There I was, standing in the lobby of some cool office, with my good ole' friend Mike, carrying a large, black, plastic case of some sort. Mike had a guitar case in his left hand and he was wearing a leather motorcycle jacket. If you know him, he would never wear such a thing. Fast forward a few minutes, and suddenly I realize we are standing in the lobby of a recording studio in Seattle......fast forward some more..... MORE
So instead of washing dishes tonight, I decided it was more worthwhile to sit down and re-watch Death Cab for Cutie's Directions DVD. Basically, this was a collections of videos that went along with the Plans CD. I wish Youtube had a copy of the video for "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" without commentary — that has got to be the most uplifting and yet most wholly heartbreaking one of the bunch. I'm particularly fond of the videos for "Summer Skin" and "Different N... MORE
A friend of mine forwarded this "investigative news report" from Salt Lake City to me and I just had to share it. It's about this "new subculture" that's sweeping teens called "emo." It would be funny if the alarmist tone and misinformation in it weren't so scary: http://www.abc4.com/mediacenter/local.aspx?videoId=65333 And yes, they cite Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" as an example of an emo song that encourages suicide. I swear I'm not making this up.... MORE

This song/video by far got me hooked to the "Directions" album that came out with these artist's interpretations of Death Cab's Plans album. This video by far was one of my favorites...
I have just started listening to this band and I love the feel of their music. Being new to MOG, I am just learning that there is another world of music out there that I have not been tuning in to. Finally!! I am saddened at times to see what has become of the mainstream music of today. I have been looking for a site to expand my listening choices and I have found it.
I was jamming out to Simple Minds on the way from San Jose back to tha M-P earlier today...windows down, volume cranked...I caught the song on satellite radio and don't have the MP3, so I decided to listen to it again tonight courtesy of YouTube...much to my dismay, it is the video equivalent of a GlamourShot...the song is ruined for me... On the other hand, this video is makes me want to listen to this song over and over...a good rule of thumb is: when in doubt,... MORE
