The Saturday prior to the US release of their new album, Narrow Stairs, many green Red Sox-cap wearing DCFC fans were treated to a phenomenal, 21-song performance that featured several of their new songs intertwined into a set list that spanned the majority of their albums (not you, Something About Airplanes/You Can Play These Songs With Chords). As I posted last week, I was able to obtain the new album in advance and my initial feelings towards the album were generall... MORE

‘Narrow Stairs’ is not an easy album to love. In fact, as soon as it was over, I had to listen to it again. And then again. Because I was afraid something had happened. I was afraid I was right. Quotes like this were floating around:
”Thus far it’s pretty weird, and pretty spectacular; lots of blood. It’s creepy and heavy… We’ve got a ten minute long Can [German experimental band – JM] jam.” - Chris Walla on hallofjusticerecording.com and: “... MORE

I cheated and was able to acquire Death Cab For Cutie’s new album Narrow Stairs a week in advance. I had already pre-ordered this on iTunes (for the free tracks) and I’ll be venturing into my local record store to pick up a real copy and get the free DCFC pint glass that comes with it a week from today. However, I wanted a preview of what I will be hearing this Saturday when DCFC plays in Boston. Upon reading the initial reviews of Death Cab For Cutie's new alb... MORE

After listening to the single Death Cab For Cutie released to bump up the anticipation for their new album even more, I was excited. Very excited. "I Will Possess Your Heart" is a beautifully structured and executed piece of music. At 8:35, it is an epic choice as a single, ambitious and impressive. Whats even more impressive is how well it was received, and how much everyone seems to be enjoying it. The slow escalade to emotional vocals and break outs of music is like the bu... MORE

Okay, I've removed the mp3. I think it's stupid that, on a site where we're supposed to have discussions about music, I feel like I'm talking to a wall. I'm not a comment whore, but I did put some work into this and I'd appreciate feedback. Anyway, down to the review: Track Four - Cath... "Cath..." is a track that stirs mixed emotions in me. Enough has been changed that I feel that it's not the same song we heard Ben Gibbard play live--and I don't mean that the... MORE

Okay, I've removed the mp3. I think it's stupid that, on a site where we're supposed to have discussions about music, I feel like I'm talking to a wall. I'm not a comment whore, but I did put some work into this and I'd appreciate feedback. Okay, so... there's a new Death Cab album out. And it is, obviously, wonderful. It's also unlike anything they've done previously. Ben Gibbard's lyrics are more--not basic, but bare-bones, perhaps. Gone is the cheerful imagery; p... MORE

It seems that DCFC heard me begging for more of Narrow Stairs because yesterday I stumbled up a live acoustic version of a new song called Cath. This song is better than I Will Possess Your Heart, much better. The song is about a girl named Cath and the lyrics are amazing, Ben has out done himself again. Anyone who likes Death Cab should find this song and listen to it immediately.... MORE

Here is an acoustic version of "Cath..." which will be featured on DCFC 's album Narrow Stairs due out in May. Originally I ripped the audio from a YouTube video featuring Ben Gibbard playing this solo & acoustically, but then I found a much better and cleaner version to share with you all... enjoy.... MORE

Today MOG unveils the band's cover art for the follow-up to 2005's Plans, which was recorded in three studios. Narrow Stairs hits stores on May 13th via Atlantic.
Does it, or does it not look like something a 6th grader could make in art class? That was about the time I was into cut-and-paste collaging. And what, no ... MORE
