its been a cloudy couple of months on mog. weve lost some great moggers, but now an elite in his prime climbs the stairway. honestly, i cant say i knew him as well as you all did, but i really wish i could. so i guess i can only suggest one thing in times of mourning. one... song. this song.... vandervelde's record has some great vintage sounds reminiscent of t-rex, bowie, the moody blues and george harrison
i was definitely interested in seeing how that all translated live, especially the tunes like "murder in michigan" that have lush string arrangements
and vandervelde went in the absolute opposite direction with a super stripped down approach
the classic rock power trio is indeed alive and well
the bassist was great and i think i saw him playi... MORE

Monday April 16th 2007, David Vandervelde performed at the basement to a underwhelming but enthusiastic crowd of listeners. Probaly Due to the fact that the concert was on a monday night the crowd was less then stellar, but David and his band didnt fail to dissapoint. We got there a little late and the band still hadnt arrived at the venue. A amazing local band who shall remain nameless(since I was to stupid to find there name out) played an enthusiastic and interes... MORE

I am thinking this is my third post on the
topic of David V. I love his stuff. And he finally has a video out for the first single 'Jacket' Musically, I hear a cross between T Rex and Ween, with much more straight forward lyrics...He is criss crossing the country this summer supporting the album, including a spot on this year's Lollapalooza lineup.... David Vandervelde sound like a cross between Ween and Marc Bolan from T-Rex...at least to this untrained ear. I just love this CD....popped it back in for the first time in a long time, as I see he is coming to town in a couple of weeks, and my love for it came rushing back to me!... MORE

David is a new discovery for me. LOVE this song. The vocals have a cool 'ween-like' quality to them, with much more straight forward lyrics. I have been listening this album, The Moonstation House Band all day today. I don't know much else about him, other then he works frequently with Jay Bennett who used to be in Wilco. Give this a spin and leave feedback if you want, don't spare my feelings! I cam curious to hear what you guys think of ot...... MORE

1This is the new video for 'Jacket' by David Vandervelde who gives us some Ziggy-era Bowie rock minus the glam. This guy wears his 70s rock influences on his sleeve. Bowie, T-rex, ELO , you can hear it all in his music and with his new album 'The Moonstation House Band' he has really done his homework. Its a solid album and is already a contender for album of the year. Beleive the Hype on this one!... MORE
