I had to do best-of lists for PopMatters this week, and I don't have anything else to put up at the moment, so I thought I'd throw it out there. My list has changed a little bit since I submitted it to Harp a month or so ago...it would probably change a little bit every time I looked at it. This weekend, the editors at Dusted asked a bunch of us to contribute a paragraph on our favorite records of the year so far. The feature, which went up today, has entries for records you'll probably have heard of (Panda Bear, Devin the Dude), and others that will most likely be new to you. But don't be scared. ... and he has a new album out. There, I've said it. It's as wonderful as always and you should all go and get it. It's out on Merge Records. Mr. Kilgour is one of the greats of the New Zealand/Flying Nun label music scene and used to be in the totally legendary band The Clean. I think it was Colin from High Violets who posted about "perfect songs" a few weeks ago. I've had David Kilgour's "Today Is Gonna be Mine" running through my head ever since...it's from his wonderful album A Feather in the Engine and it just couldn't not be more beautiful or complete. That led me to think of another song that reminds me of "Today is Gonna Be Mine," a little more recent, from Mazarin's We're Already There. The song is "Another One Goes By". I'm not say... MORE
