There's something about Halloween that just syncs up with so much of the music that I listen to. The airy atmosphere, chilling winds and bright colors of fall just go together with rich arrangements, luminescent melodies, and poignant lyrics. Halloween also allows for a rich palette from which to carve a political pumpkin, or in this case a political cartoon. Here are a few songs to accompan...
--- - |- Tim Russert died Friday and he was one of my favorite moderators. Not just because of his long career and thorough questioning, but that little snicker he had as he was doing the grilling, showing that he was having fun as much as he was working hard. Meet the Press won't be the same.RIP Tim RussertMay 7, 1950 - June 13, 2008David Bowie - Under Pressure (ft. Queen) AZLTRON MUSIC BLOG...
Don't let us hear that life is taking you nowhere because The Best Cuts of Music has just turned 50! Hosts Robe Flax and Sam Houser reminisce on their times gone by, past episodes, and that telethon they had to raise money back around episode 3. It was a fun time and was integral to the future success of the show. They took calls, had some acts, and had to apologize for interrupting the regular...
A bit of futurism, a bit of make-up, but best, lots of Gender Confusion. Was there a better way to shake up rock and roll? On February 12, 1972, David Bowie brought his new Ziggy Stardust concept to the stage at Imperial College, London. The third date of the tour, it was effectively the night that Ziggy's Five Year Plan was unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Imperial College is one of L...
Turns out David Bowie is helping Woody Allen muse Scarlett Johansson on her debut music album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. Bowie lent his chops on two songs on the record - "Fannin’ Street" and "Falling Down." We can only assume the collaboration came with the help of the record's producer David Sitek. Sitek is a member of TV on the Radio, whom Bowie has plugged through the years. Billboard reports.
According to economist Evan Davies, who fronts the BBC's Dragons Den, the credit crunch is all David Bowie's fault. In the mid-90s, Bowie raised $50million selling 'Bowie Bonds', which entitled the buyer to a share of the royalties from the singer's back-catalogue. In return, Bowie collected future profits up-front.Davies said that the intiative, known as securitisation, was picked up by banks t...
Yesterday, I was having lunch at a vegetarian restaurant on La Cienega in West Hollywood with two friends. One of the guys - the actor who recommended the place - noticed the actress Amy Smart at a nearby table, and struck up a conversation with her about Pilates or diet or an acting coach they both knew. I'm not sure, since I wasn't eavesdropping. Sure, I often admire Ms. Smart's work, and I t...
At this point we are well used to models converting to acting or posing as a TV spokesperson. However, it is typically more painful when models try to sing. Something about matching pitch, tone, and still smiling and strutting often proves too tough for the lanky long-limbed leopards in leotards. BUT word is Aggy will triapse onstage at The Nokia Green Room this Saturday at the Riverside Studi...
I'm keyed up, and not just because it's Funky Friday - although that should be enough of a reason. I'm going to my first Bootie event in Los Angeles tomorrow night. (Members of the San Francisco crew that launched Bootie - usually DJs Adrian and the Mysterious D - host and spin tracks at the monthly editions of the mash-up party held in L.A. and New York City, not to mention the occasional over...
As genius as Quentin Tarantino is at making movies I think its safe to say he's just as genius at putting together soundtracks."When I'm writing a script," said Tarantino once, "one of the first things I do is find the music I'm going to play for the opening sequence. I can't go forward until I figure out how I'm going to start - what the opening mood music will be. As I'm writing, I go through...

I wanted to post this Bowie song just because I really love it. Not sure why but it made me think of other men songs I like. Like Robyn Hitchcock's "The Man Who Invented Himself". I noticed that there's quite a large number of "The Man With The (insert descriptive word or phrase here)" songs. I think there's probably enough for a whole mix cd. Whether or not this would be a good mix I don...
