Don't let us hear that life is taking you nowhere because The Best Cuts of Music has just turned 50! Hosts Robe Flax and Sam Houser reminisce on their times gone by, past episodes, and that telethon they had to raise money back around episode 3. It was a fun time and was integral to the future success of the show. They took calls, had some acts, and had to apologize for interrupting the regular...
A white witch helped cure David Bowie of his crippling drug-fueled paranoia, according to a revealing new book about the rock star.Writer Mark Spitz spent years talking to Bowie, as well as the rocker's family and friends, in a bid to explode myths about the Let's Dance legend in his new tome, "Bowie."And Spitz reveals how the rocker called on magic to help him get through a terrifying part of ...
Last weekend the New York Times Week in Review featured a misleading story on the "Golden Years" of Afghanistan. I was there; they're weren't a golden age. They were kind of Bronze Age. Elisabeth Bumiller, the writer, was once voted the Worst Campaign Journalist of 2004. She's gotten worse with time-- unless her beat is Moth Goose tales. I've got the full Afghanistan version of this story at Do...

A German spider specialist told the Observer newspaper he named the new species after Bowie — whose album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was a huge hit in 1972 — because he wanted to raise awareness about the discovery.
A bit of futurism, a bit of make-up, but best, lots of Gender Confusion. Was there a better way to shake up rock and roll? On February 12, 1972, David Bowie brought his new Ziggy Stardust concept to the stage at Imperial College, London. The third date of the tour, it was effectively the night that Ziggy's Five Year Plan was unleashed on an unsuspecting public. Imperial College is one of L...

You can read my Bowie review at:http://treblezine.com/reviews/2917-David_Bowie_iSelect.htmlDavid BowieiSelectAstralwerks2008My first ever memory of David Bowie was seeing him dressed up in the sorrowful pierrot's costume on Mars in the video for "Ashes to Ashes." He looked like an alien but there was something about his voice and the lyrics that stuck with me. He seemed otherworldly and strange...
There's something about Halloween that just syncs up with so much of the music that I listen to. The airy atmosphere, chilling winds and bright colors of fall just go together with rich arrangements, luminescent melodies, and poignant lyrics. Halloween also allows for a rich palette from which to carve a political pumpkin, or in this case a political cartoon. Here are a few songs to accompan...

Not just because of his long career and thorough questioning, but that little snicker he had as he was doing the grilling, showing that he was having fun as much as he was working hard. Turns out David Bowie is helping Woody Allen muse Scarlett Johansson on her debut music album, Anywhere I Lay My Head. Bowie lent his chops on two songs on the record - "Fannin’ Street" and "Falling Down." We can only assume the collaboration came with the help of the record's producer David Sitek. Sitek is a member of TV on the Radio, whom Bowie has plugged through the years. Billboard reports.
