David Bazan’s new album, Curse Your Branches, is awesome. Quick background: Bazan was raised an Evangelical Christian, and made great music with the Christian indie-rock band Pedro the Lion for years. Then, married and 30 years old, he had a sort of existential crisis, and went from Evangelical Christian to Atheist in the span of [...]
Theres one album out this week that deserves your attention, and it’s by David Bazan. I’ve been waiting for this release for a long time. I’ll probably be putting out a review on it sometime in the near future, but for now, go make your own decision. Buy it. Read up [...]
today (for whatever reason) david bazan and tw walsh of pedro the lion got together and did a quick two song live stream where they played "when they really get to know you they will run" and "penetration" from it's hard to find a friend and control respectively. i could get used to this.
The album I'm most excited for this year is by far David Bazan's first full length solo album, Curse Your Branches. It's strange to think that the former Pedro The Lion frontman is only just now releasing his first solo album but it's true - his last release was the EP Fewer Moving Parts that was released some 3 years back. Today, Stereogum broke the first track over on the Gum Drop.David Baz.
David Bazan will be trekking out for a full US tour October thru November. He’ll be stopping by Kilby Court for the Utah date on 11/02 which I will definitely be attending. Say Hi will be supporting on all dates. Instead of the acoustic house shows that he’s been doing recently, Bazan [...]
One of the musicians that has impacted my life the most is doubtlessly David Bazan, who I first discovered about ten years ago after the release of Pedro The Lion's It's Hard To Find a Friend. Most of the musicians that have impacted my life for as long as Bazan has have either died or disbanded so when it was announced earlier in the summer that Bazan's headlining tour would bring him to Chic...
[September 2009] When I was in high school, I got a job at a Christian bookstore. I was partly just looking for discounts on wildly underrated records by faithful indie rockers like Starflyer 59, Danielson Famile, and David Bazan's former band, Pedro The Lion. Still, as much as it pains me to admit it, back then I was fairly conservative and even (dare I say it?) evangelical. Of course, after h...
This is new. Sometimes I don't have the time or motivation to write a full-blown review. That's why starting today, I'm going to be introducing new Mini-Reviews! Like a real review, but a shitload shorter and hopefully a bit more concise and to the point. Enjoy David BazanCurse Your BranchesBarsukHeart breaking [...]
Curse Your Branches is the new album from Pedro The Lion's David Bazan. With one EP under his belt, this is the first full length record of Bazan's solo career. There are no shortage of musicians out there who are penning songs about pain and life gone wrong. What separated Pedro The Lion from the likes of Bon Iver and Iron & Wine is that they knew that the music was just as important as the
Curse Your Branches, a brutally-honest document of one man's struggle with his faith, begs us to reconsider Bazan's place in the singer-songwriter pecking order.
Suicide Squeeze announced the latest edition in the annual series of Pedro the Lion/David Bazan Christmas 7'' singles. Radiohead is always good for existential meltdowns, right? Since it's Sunday, enjoy this cover of "Let Down" by Dave Bazan. My childhood is officially dead. My best friend from elementary school is married. And seven months pregnant. She's the same age as I am.What the hell happened? I was inseparable with this girl from first grade through fifth. We giggled about our first crushes, preten...
This post was inspired by Eric5776 who mentioned a forthcoming album... According to davidbazan.com, a full length debut album with his new band "David Bazan's Black Cloud" is in the works for early 2009, which will be released by the new label he signed with, Barsuk Records. The "band" is really supposed to just be him playing all of the instruments on the album and then he's going to bring 5...
This could be Mr. Bazan's semi-big break. He has been tapped to open the Ben Gibbard solo tour. David Bazan's lyrics and music are worth gracing. Don't miss this highly talented opening act on the tour.
