Daft Punk's full-length debut is a funk-house hailstorm, giving real form to a style of straight-ahead dance music not attempted since the early fusion days of on-the-one funk and dance-party disco. Thick, rumbling bass, vocoders, choppy breaks and beats, and a certain brash naiveté permeate the record from start to finish, giving it the edge of an almost certain classic. While a few fall flat, the best tracks make this one essential.
I'm not gonna lie. This blog post started out as a screed against the inanity of certain songs that girls always seem to love. I was going to call it something like "Five songs whose appeal I will never understand", in which I would self-righteously rail against the idiocy of tunes like Big & Rich's "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)" and ABBA's "Dancing Queen". But when I started examining my li...

Here is the Saturday (16/06) line up of the Hyde Park festival. Daft Punk are the reason to be there for me but, apart from the first 4 or 5, I've not really had a chance to check out the others properly. Any recommendations? One of the videos in "Musique Vol. I 1993 - 2005".For me, the CD from this compilation goes from great to plain good about halfway in, and I just saw them not long ago with their new show everyone is talking about, but this video makes me wish I could have seen them back then really bad. A far rawer setup, way more hardware oriented and no pyrotechnics in comparison, but still awesome.

In a spot of retro-to-go today, I would like to present to you my all-time favourite music video. Yes, it's Michel Gondry's creation for Daft Punk's Around the World single, released in 1997 from their album Homework. Not only is this a classic track, but it's an absolutely classic video and one which immediately mesmerised young me way back when on late night television (remember when they us...
I would like to take a moment to talk to you about DJ LunyP . LunyP is a Sydney Australia based dj who is one half of AudioKillaZ . These guys are predominantly focused on making Breakbeats, fidget and Baltimore. However, Mr LunyP has split off down his own path concentrating purely on baltimore. His songs use that balti back beat (that boom chicka cha) which is popular amongst ze balti prod...
