Just can’t get enough of the remarkable tunesmith Neil Finn - leader, singer-guitarist, and chief songwriter of the well-loved New Zealand/Australian rock ensemble Crowded House. Although he recorded a couple of solid solo projects (and two pleasing albums with his brother and frequent collaborator Tim Finn), we’ve heard nothing truly new from Crowded House in years. Almost business as usual
In terms of unbridled pop eloquence and charm, nothing much seems to have changed since Crowded House called it a day after 1993's Together Alone album, but events from their time apart can't help but inform their new music. Neil Finn and bassist Nick Seymour still know their way around a hook-laden radio-friendly hit, but are doing so without the sparky personality of original drummer Paul Hester, who took his own life two years ago.

One of those oft hoped-for and long-awaited reunions that didn't seem likely to ever occur (Recurring Dreams?) - especially after the tragic loss of Paul Hester - came to pass in grand style just on sunset at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

The recently reformed Crowded House has announced details concerning Time On Earth, their first record of new material since 1993's Together Alone. Time On Earth will be released by EMI\Parlophone worldwide on July 2nd 2007, with the exception of North America where it will be released by ATO Records on July 10th. Johnny Marr threw his hat in and wrote new music with the guys from Australian band Crowded House. "Even A Child" written with frontman Neil Finn will be featured on the band's first album in 14 years, Time On Earth(Capitol).
Marr, formerly of the Smiths and currently in Modest Mouse, undoubtedly will bring a lot of new attention to the group.
Time On Earth is due for release July 3. The band will also be at Coachella on Sunday.
