I was at a bar having dinner and some drinks earlier this evening. The music being played was pretty good. I heard maybe 4 cover songs, and 3 of them were good. And then they played a coverr of "Ohio". And it. was. bad. Very bad. Whoever was doing this cover just sort of sang it, as if they had no idea what the song was about. Clearly this person (sounded like a woman) had no idea that she was supposed to sound angry or sad or something. It sounded like nothing. S... MORE
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Civic Center, Hartford, CT, April 12, 2000. What made this show so surprising, and so cool, was that CSN were, in a lot of ways, back-up singers for Y. Iâm gonna get off this nostalgia thing very soon. I promise. But before I do⊠In the âshameless plugâ department, my colleague/buddy/fellow MOGger Barney Hoskyns â notable Brit music journo and all-around lover of fine tuneage â is celebrating the paperback release of his latest (and my favorite) of his books, âHotel California: The True-Life Adventures of Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Mitchell, Taylor, Browne, Ronstadt, Geffen, the Eagles & Their Many Friends.â The tit... As of yesterday, I am a homeowner. Today is the big move, and I am up early for a six hour trip to work first. Yo La Tengo's "Pass the Axe, I Think I'm Goodkind" is my coffee. Quite a good power-wake. Last night, my wife and son and I crossed the threshold and ate dinner in our new empty home. The soundtrack:"Our House," CSNYThe South Point album by the Martin Headman Trio (he was playing in the lobby of our honeymoon resort, and the CD's were available for purchase in... MORE
Today was the last of my rejection calls from potential employers. If any of you have been following my search for new employment, you know my history here. Boy decides to leave teaching after 10 years to look for a better paying job. Sixth months later, I am back where I started. While part of me is disappointed I am not able to land another type of job, another part of me misses the daily routine of teaching. I made the call this morning to Human Resources to find out wh... Picked up this CSN&Y album yesterday, and wow. It is absolutely fantastic. I mean, I like Neil Young and I've liked the stuff I've heard from the group via radio and such, but wow. I love this album. It got me thinking, and I tried to research this question a little bit before posting, but here it is: Is there a better album to come out in 1970 than Deja Vu? In that year you've got Zeppelin III and Morrison Hotel and such, but I think this album beats those. So if ... MORE
"There is a town in north Ontario,
With dream comfort memory to spare,
And in my mind
I still need a place to go,
All my changes were there."

Great post over at Father Knows Shit, on what to really teach your children: If you want to teach your children about how to properly rock, you must ingrain in them the DFF Principle, which states that rock ânâ roll can only be considered truly rocking if itâs about the following three things: -Drinking-Fighting-Fornicating Thatâs the list. I make absolutely no exceptions to this, unless the song happens to be about ancient dragons, three-headed Satanic dogs, or some... MORE
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young look back in anger Stumping on the Freedom of Speech tour, their first in four years, the political action committee of David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills and Young rekindled the spirit of the '60s with barely one whit of nostalgia. That's because their sprawling 34-song set at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Orange County was about looking back in anger, while focusing on the new world disorder and America's recoiling place in it... Waiting for MOM to populate my MOG, but one of the first LPs I ever owned was Deja Vu. A little blond girl, daughter of family friends turned me on to CSNY, and I developed a crush on her and the band. In the end, the relationship died, she lived in texas, and we in missouri, and well, we were in 5th grade! But I followed CSNY in all their various permutations for years. The first concert I remember seeing was CSNY at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, summer of '74. I'd j... MORE
