‘Conor Oberst’ is not, as some would have you believe (I’m looking at you, Metro newspaper) the debut solo album from, well, Conor Oberst. It’s the fourth one, and that’s not even counting the work he’s done with Bright Eyes, Commander Venus, Desaparacidos and Park Avenue (of which I count a combined fourteen albums, but feel free to correct me in the comments). It seems, in fact, that the number one thing that ‘Conor Oberst’ wants you to know about Conor Oberst (see the d... MORE
It's been a long time since Conor Oberst, known to most as Mr. Bright Eyes, played a show in Manchester. Three and half years, to be precise. And all that time I've been waiting for it. You could probably call me a superfan - I own 152 songs by him, I know the words to four of his albums by heart. I've watched the Saddle Creek DVD and know obscure facts about his life that even he's probably forgotten. So, as you can imagine, I was pretty psyched for his return, this time ... MORE
I was going to post footage of Conor Oberst and his new outfit the Mystic Valley Band performing a new track on Leno the other night, but then the folks at Stereogum tipped me off to this new official video for another track off the Omaha dude's new sefl-titled album. Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, "Souled Out!!!" And in case you missed Oberst on Leno the other night, here he is playing "Get Well Cards" (which is my favorite so far off the new o... MORE

Bright Eyes is on hiatus for a little bit, but BE fans fear not: Conor Oberst released his self-titled album on Tuesday.
If you haven't had the opportunity to buy it or listen to it yet, you can download one of the tracks, "Danny Callahan," for FREE thanks to CMJ.
Go here and you should be able to download the song with just one click.

conor oberst visited the world cafe today to talk about and play a few songs from his new self-titled album with the mystic valley band. you can hear the entire thirty-minute interview and set, in which oberst discusses, among other things, writing songs, mainstream acceptance & accolades, veganism & eating locally, and politics, over here . of course if you just want to hear the songs, why then you've come to the right place. they're each fine, though our favorite of t... We all (us hardcore bright eyes fans) knew it was coming, since that leak of a solo show by Conor Oberst showed up earlier this year. But now it's confirmed: Conor Oberst is releasing his first solo album since the early days of Water and Here's To Special Treatment when he was just a kid. The album will be self-titled and surprisingly not on Saddle Creek records. It will feature the Mystic Valley Band rather than his usual Bright Eyes crew. The big date is the 4th of Au... MORE
I swear!!!! Ok so I took a little time off to post the new Conor Oberst vid, for Soul Out!!! which looks kinda fun and OMFG! I never thought I'd see that guy brushing his teeth, or shirtless, he has a tattoo y'all!!! and can ride a bike, something we do not have in common, And well, here you have Connor waking up, brushing his teeth, riding bikes and playing guitar shitless in a "pool" with a little sailing ship tattooed on his chest: Pretty cool., ha? Conor Oberst delivers his first album free of the Bright Eyes name since 2004 on Merge Records, and not surprisingly it is of the same quality as any of those releases from his well known moniker. This time working without his long time collaborator Mike Mogis and instead with his assembled Mystic Valley Band (which includes Taylor Hollingsworth) in a quiet part of Mexico. Where he reported his favorite place to be was in a hammock as the sun came up. In that way, the cov... MORE

Conor Oberst Conor Oberst Merge 2008 "…with the coming of Bright Eyes began the part of my life you could call my life on the road." The first lines from Jack Kerouac's On The Road can be seen as a fitting analogy for the creative life of Conor Oberst as a traveling troubadour in search of truth and meaning within the journey of song. I know that Dean Moriarty is the one who led Sal across North Amer... MORE

Maybe I’m a little late to the party on this news, but I just heard about it tonight and it made my ears moist. As reported here and here, the three are currently recording an album together. Release date is unknown, but we’ll keep you posted. While I’m not a huge Conor Oberst fan, I’m a [...]

Now 28, Conor Oberst famously began his recording career at the age of 13. Since those early years, his solo career has taken something of a back seat, with most of his material coming as part of various bands, mostly Bright Eyes, whose last release was the well-received Cassadaga from last year. Taking a break from that band, Oberst travelled down to Mexico and through January and February of this year, recorded this self-titled album ...

I was a little confused by this record at first, namely why it wasn't coming out on Saddle Creek and why it wasn't under Oberst's Bright Eyes moniker which he's used since 2005. Perhaps that is just it - Oberst was a teenager when he started making Bright Eyes records, and the time has come for something new. With his first official solo record, Oberst sounds like a musician who has genuinely come into his own on all fronts. While the charm of early Brigh... MORE
