Lead singer Johnette Napolitano previously was in the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. In 1986, they signed with I.R.S. Records and they needed a new name. Their labelmate at the time, Michael Stipe (lead singer of REM) suggested the name "Concrete Blonde". It was his way of describing the mix of their heavy rock sound and their deep, introspective lyr...
Concrete Blonde's 1990 LP "Bloodletting" contained their breakthrough single "Joey", which other folks have posted about on MOG, but my fave on this album was "Caroline", a haunting, rocking song about a disappeared girl.....the video, rarely seen, is superb.
